摘要： A vehicle steering assist system, including an engine pump, a flow-rate restricting mechanism, a motor pump, a motor-pump controller, and a steering-force assist device, wherein the steering assist system is configured to restrict an engine-pump ejection flow rate to be lower than a required receiving flow rate to be received by the assist device when the engine pump is operated by being driven by an engine rotating at an idling speed, the engine-pump ejection flow rate being a flow rate of a working fluid ejected from the engine pump to the assist device via the restricting mechanism, and wherein the motor-pump controller is configured to control a motor-pump ejection flow rate such that an insufficient flow rate of the working fluid is covered by the motor-pump ejection flow rate, the insufficient flow rate being a shortage in the required receiving flow rate not covered by the engine-pump ejection flow rate.

A main machine switching circuit, which is capable of shutting off power supply to the main machine drive circuit, and an auxiliary machine switching circuit, which is capable of shutting off power supply to the steering assist drive circuit are provided in parallel. As long as the auxiliary machine switching circuit is turned on, power supply to the steering assist drive circuit is continued even when the main machine switching circuit is turned off.

A second pump connected with the power steering motor assembly is continuously driven by an engine of the vehicle. A valve connected with the power steering motor assembly and the second pump directs fluid flow from the second pump to at least one of the power steering motor assembly and reservoir during operation of both the first pump and the second pump. A pumping mechanism includes a first pumping area defining the first pump and a second pumping area defining the second pump. The first pumping area is smaller than the second pumping area.

A torque limiter fitted in between the steering shaft and the gear comprises a torque setting member, which is subject to diametric deformation as a result of being fitted in between the outer circumference of the steering shaft and the inner circumference of the gear. Diametric force is applied to the steering shaft and the gear in accordance with the diametric deformation of the torque setting member. The limit torque value of the torque limiter corresponds to the diametric deformation of the torque setting member.
