    • In a vehicular power supply system, a main battery supplies electric power to both main machine drive circuit, which drives a main motor for driving a vehicle, and a steering assist drive circuit, which drives a steering assist motor of a power steering apparatus. A main machine switching circuit, which is capable of shutting off power supply to the main machine drive circuit, and an auxiliary machine switching circuit, which is capable of shutting off power supply to the steering assist drive circuit are provided in parallel. As long as the auxiliary machine switching circuit is turned on, power supply to the steering assist drive circuit is continued even when the main machine switching circuit is turned off.

    • An apparatus for use in turning steerable vehicle wheels includes a power steering motor assembly connected with the steerable vehicle wheels. A first pump connected with the power steering motor assembly is continuously driven by an engine of the vehicle to supply fluid under pressure to the power steering motor assembly. A second pump connected with the power steering motor assembly is continuously driven by an engine of the vehicle. A valve connected with the power steering motor assembly and the second pump directs fluid flow from the second pump to at least one of the power steering motor assembly and reservoir during operation of both the first pump and the second pump. A pumping mechanism includes a first pumping area defining the first pump and a second pumping area defining the second pump. The first pumping area is smaller than the second pumping area.

    • Disclosed is a power steering system comprising: a control valve disposed in the steering mechanism to selectably supply a working liquid supplied from a first pump or a second pump to a pair of pressure chambers of a power cylinder providing a steering force for at least one steered wheel in accordance with a rotational steering operation of a steering wheel; a first switching valve disposed between the first pump and the control valve to switch a communication and an interruption of the working liquid between the first pump and the control valve; and a second switching valve disposed between the second pump and the control valve to switch the communication and the interruption of the working liquid between the second pump and the control valve, a communication state and an interruption state being selectably formed in the second switching valve when the first switching valve is in the communication state.

    • An apparatus (10) for use in turning steerable vehicle wheels (12, 14) includes first and second piston and cylinder type hydraulic motors (32, 34) which are connected with a central portion of a vehicle. A steering control valve (24) is operable in response to manual rotation of a steering wheel (18) to effect extension and contraction of the first and second hydraulic motors. A rack and pinion steering gear (110, 114) may be connected with a piston rod (86) of one of the hydraulic motors (32). A secondary control valve (200) may be provided to effect operation of one of the hydraulic motors to a greater extent than the other hydraulic motor.

    • A motor operated power steering device which transmits rotational force from a steering assistance motor to a steering shaft by way of a gear fitted around the outer circumference of the steering shaft. A torque limiter fitted in between the steering shaft and the gear comprises a torque setting member, which is subject to diametric deformation as a result of being fitted in between the outer circumference of the steering shaft and the inner circumference of the gear. Diametric force is applied to the steering shaft and the gear in accordance with the diametric deformation of the torque setting member. The limit torque value of the torque limiter corresponds to the diametric deformation of the torque setting member.
