    • A node (2) for use in a cellular communication system having interfering signals and employing interference cancellation techniques for mitigating the interfering signals comprises means (24) for obtaining a signal value representing power of a first signal. The node (2) further comprises means (25) for obtaining a precancellation interference value representing powers of signals interfering with the first signal before the interference cancellation is employed. A predictor (23) is arranged for predicting a postcancellation interference value after the interference cancellation as a function of the precancellation interference value. An estimator (29) is connected to the predictor (23) and the means (24) for obtaining a signal value. The estimator (29) is arranged for estimating a signal-to-interference ratio as a ratio between the signal value representing the power of the first signal and the predicted postcancellation interference value.

    • Service component files are received at an input (11) from one or more service operators. An encapsulation and multiplexing system (12) organizes service components (20-23, see FIG. 2) relating to a service sequentially in a burst. In a burst, the service components include content data of different data types. A timing data subsystem (14) produces data from which a receiver can determine the times of datacast of the service components within a burst. Metadata dependent on the data type of each service component is organized, separately from the content data, by a component analyser (15). The metadata can identify a class of receiver having the capability to decode the corresponding service component, or can identify the data type of the corresponding service component, or it identifies the corresponding service component using a unique identifier. The service components, the metadata and the timing data is datacast by a transmitter station (13) for reception by receiver terminals. The metadata can be datacast as part of the corresponding service component, for example in a header thereof, or on a different bearer to the service components.

    • What is disclosed is a wireless access system. The wireless access system includes a wireless access control system configured to maintain an available pool of Media Access Control Identifiers (MAC IDs) for subsequent use by a base station, remove a portion of the MAC IDs from the available pool, and use the portion of the MAC IDs for wireless communications between a wireless transceiver of the base station and a plurality of user devices. The wireless access control system is configured to determine that the available pool of the MAC IDs is insufficient, and in response, select a set of the user devices based on at least wireless signal strength. The wireless transceiver of the base station is configured to instruct the selected set of the user devices to not use the base station for the wireless communication, and in response, the wireless access control system is configured to return ones of the MAC IDs used by the selected set of the user devices to the available pool.
