    • Displaying visual information from a motion picture in a visual field within a designated extent of a related aural field supports editing of a spatial audio effect for the motion picture. The extent of a related aural field also is displayed. Information specifying a point of origin of a sound used in the spatial audio effect with respect to the visual field is received for each of a number of frames of a portion of the motion picture. This information may be received from a pointing device that indicates a point in the displayed extent of the aural field, or from a tracker that indicates a position of an object in the displayed visual information, or from a three-dimensional model of an object that indicates a position of an object in the displayed visual field. Using the specified point of origin and the relationship of the visual and aural fields, parameters of the spatial audio effect may be determined, from which a soundtrack may be generated. Information describing the specified point of origin may be stored. The frames for which points of origin are specified may be key frames that specify parameters of a function defining how the point of origin changes from frame to frame in the portion of the motion picture. The relationship between a visual field and an aural field may be different for each of the plurality of frames in the motion picture. This relationship may be specified by displaying the visual information from the motion picture and an indication of the extent of the aural field to a user, who in turn, through an input device, may indicate changes to the extent of the aural field with respect to the visual information.

    • Apparatus for maintaining uniform volume in television or audio system forms part of television set and contains an eight-bit DSP having a CPU, RAM and ROM memory, an analog digital convertor, a voltmeter and a timer and switch, a “SAVE” button. When the user begins listening to a first channel, the user experiments with the volume desired and once the user has it the user pushes the “SAVE” button on the TV set which activates the voltmeter to measure the volume of the tension on the output of the sound amplifier, and correspondingly the loudness level, at a number of intervals to capture variations occurring during the show. DSP calculates a mean volume of the tension which is then transmitted to the RAM and retained in memory. The DSP switches off the apparatus. When the user subsequently switches to a second channel the apparatus switches on and the voltmeter measures the volume of the tension of the second channel at a number of intervals, the digital signal processor calculates the mean level and once again transmits that mean volume of the tension level to the RAM. The DSP calculates the difference between the mean volume of the tension of the saved tension and that of the second channel. If there is a difference in volumes of the tension level, the DSP sends a signal to the apparatus to adjust the volume of the tension until the difference becomes zero. In preferred embodiment, voltmeter measurement is first done crudely, then precisely.

With this construction, upon judgement whether there is a digital audio signal, if there is a signal, the digital audio signal is automatically received from a corresponding source, while, if there is no signal, an audio signal is received from other source, and whatever received is externally transmitted through an amplifier, thereby providing users with convenience in use.

    • A semiconductor integrated circuit in which a band-pass filter, a sound detector, and some other circuits are formed on a single semiconductor substrate. The output signal from an AM detector is passed through a high-pass filter to obtain, substantially, an FM sound signal. A gain variable amplifier controls the amplitude of the FM sound signal and passes the signal through the band-pass filter to extract substantially, an FM sound carrier signal. The amplitude detector monitors the amplitude of the sound carrier signal and applies negative feedback to the gain variable amplifier so that the amplitude is kept constant. Thus, the influence of noise from the band-pass filter is reduced, and degradation of signal-to-noise ratio can be prevented.
