    • A method and device for providing a service record for an application (e.g., a legacy application) running on a virtual serial port of a wireless transceiver device, such as a Bluetooth-enabled device. The virtual serial port emulates a serial connection (e.g., a serial cable) for the application. The virtual serial port for the application is opened by a virtual serial port driver. In accordance with the present embodiment of the present invention, the virtual serial port driver also provides the service name of the application. The virtual serial port driver can derive the service name from the name of the application, or the virtual serial port driver can use a default name. Thus, the virtual serial port driver performs the additional function of automatically providing a service name for a application, thereby introducing a standard, efficient and user-friendly approach for providing a readily-identifiable service name for a legacy application.

The present invention provides a three-dimensional neighborhood modeling system that uses aerial image data, Digital Elevation Models, U.S. street map data and address data to automatically map the placement of nodes within a neighborhood or other geographical area. Method for creating the 3-Dimensional, House and Tree Maps used in the line-of-sight processing are also disclosed. A House Map in the present invention identifies houses in an area of consideration, and a Tree Map in the present invention identifies trees in an area of consideration. A 3-Dimensional Map in the present invention provides an elevation for every pixel for the area under consideration, whereby the elevation is adjusted for the height of trees, houses and other objects.

    • A wireless system comprises a number of wireless stations for communication with each other through short-range wireless links. In a multiple link data object conveying method, in a data conveying session, a first short-range wireless link is set up between a first and a second wireless station of the wireless system. Upon setting up of the first short-range wireless link, first and second personal identification codes are respectively entered in the first and second wireless stations. Thereafter, a data connection through the first wireless link is only set up if the first and second entered personal identification codes are the same. If the data connection is set up the first personal identification code is stored for later use in the session, and the data object is conveyed through the first wireless link. Then, while using the stored first personal identification code, at least a subsequent short-range wireless link is set up from the first wireless station to a third wireless station. After checking whether the third wireless station returned the same personal identification code as the re-used first personal identification code, the same type of data object is conveyed through the subsequent wireless link.

    • A stand-alone device includes an integrated circuit (IC) die (optionally free of conventional IC packaging and bond pads) that responds to a signal by (1) storing energy retrieved from the signal, and (2) using the stored energy to generate another signal that is encoded with information provided by a data source (such as a memory or a sensor depending on the implementation) that is included in the device. The IC die includes a power supply, a signal transmitter, and optionally includes an antenna. During operation of one embodiment, the power supply receives from the antenna electrical energy extracted from a portion of a radio frequency signal incident on the IC die. The power supply stores the energy in an energy store over a period of time, and thereafter supplies at least a portion of the stored energy to the signal transmitter. The signal transmitter uses the energy to generate an electrical signal carrying the information from the data source, and on receipt of the electrical signal the antenna transmits another radio frequency signal containing the information. All parts of the IC die are coupled to each other by electrical conductors formed within the IC die. The device is used as a stand-alone component, i.e. free of connections to other electronic components. In one such case the IC die includes the antenna, and all interactions with the device are performed by wireless signals.
