    • A UHF Tuner device having a first rotating member rotating unitarily with a coarse tuning rotating shaft and adapted to be indexed and held in a position to which it has been thus rotated; a second rotating member rotated unitarily with a fine tuning rotating shaft; and a third rotating member rotated by the rotation of the second rotating member thereby to vary the capacitance of a variable capacitor of a tuner device proper, the second and third rotating member rotating unitarily with the first rotating member at the time of channel-selection coarse tuning when the coarse turning rotating shaft is rotated, and the third rotating member being rotated in accordance with the rotation of the second rotating member at the time of fine tuning when the fine tuning rotating shaft is rotated. The first rotating member has slots formed therein in radial directions thereof, while the second and third rotating members respectively have cam grooves formed with certain angular ranges with respect to their respective centers, the rotation of the second rotating member being transmitted to the third rotating member by engagement members inserted through the slots of the first rotating member and clamped between the cam grooves of the second and third rotating members.

    • A detent type tuning mechanism for a UHF tuner having a continuously variable tuning shaft includes a detented selector shaft, a gear train interconnecting the tuning shaft and the selector shaft, and a memory type fine tuning mechanism including a rotatable turret having mounted thereon a plurality of cams each engageable by a fine tuning shaft when the selector shaft is positioned in predetermined ones of the detent positions. A Geneva mechanism is employed to rotate the turret a predetermined increment to bring a different one of the cams into engagement with the fine tuning shaft when the selector shaft is rotated a predetermined number of detent positions. Each cam thereby serves as a memory fine tuning member for a predetermined group of adjacent UHF channels corresponding to a like number of detent positions of the selector shaft. An indicator dial provides a numerical display of the precise UHF channel selected at each position of the detented selector shaft.

    • Undesired creep between the input station selector shaft of a seventy position detent UHF tuner and the drive pinion connected to the rotor shaft of the tuner is avoided by employing a spacer member between the selector shaft and an internal fine tuning shaft. The spacer holds the selector shaft and fine tuning shaft in exact coaxial alignment against the lateral thrust exerted by the detent spring and permits relatively tolerances or play between the two shafts without producing an undesired creeping action of the drive pinion as the selector shaft is rotated.

    • In a tuner for tuning a TV set or the like to a selected one of a plurality of predetermined frequencies or channels, means are provided for fine tuning of the set at a given channel setting, which fine tuning arrangement, although positive in operation and effective to maintain its position as the set is turned from one channel to the next, takes up a minimal amount of space. One of the members which rotates when the channel selection is effected carries a part which is pivotally mounted thereon, and a cam controlled by the fine tuning shaft rotates about an axis displaced from the axis of the member to position that part, which is in turn connected to the output element which drives the tuning device itself thus addition an increment of movement in one direction or the other to the gross meovement produced when the member is moved to effect channel selection.

    • In a tuner for tuning a TV receiver or the like to a selected one of a plurality of predetermined frequencies or channels, a detent element is interposed between the main tuning shaft and the tuning element per se, planetary gearing drives the detent element from the main tuning shaft, gearing drives the control shaft of the tuning element from the detent element, the detent element carries fine tuning parts, and all of these cooperating members are securely and reliably assembled and mounted for long life and easy operation. The detent element and the gear connecting it to the control shaft of the tuning element are provided with elongated extensions which rotatably mount the respective parts, those extensions in turn being supported by a portion of the main tuning shaft. The detent element is itself recessed in order to receive certain of the driving gears, including at least part of the planetary gearing. Actuation of the fine tuning member carried by the detent element is accomplished by means of an axially extending cam mounted on a rotatable fine tuning element. Compactness of design is therefore achieved without sacrifice of sturdiness or reliability.
