    • A noise canceler according to the invention orthogonally transforms a noise frame by means of an FFT and sorts its transform coefficients into N groups by means of a group by group basic reduction value determining section. Then, it compares the mean value of the transform coefficients of each of the groups with a threshold value and determines a basic reduction value according to the outcome of the comparison. Then, it operates to suppress the transform coefficients produced from the FFT by-means of a transform coefficient suppressing section on the basis of the basic reduction value.

    • A delayed decision feedback Log-MAP equalizer generates optimal soft information at the bit level for MPSK and MDPSK modulations over multipath fading channels. The algorithms have a forward-backward recursion structure similar to conventional Log-MAP algorithms. To reduce complexity, the forward recursion incorporates the techniques of delayed decision feedback sequence estimation to construct a reduced state space. The backward recursion then takes this state space as given, in that it does not hypothesize feedbacks, and computes required soft information.

In a first embodiment of the invention, an error signal and an ideal signal are derived from the input signal. Stronger interference signal cancellation is accomplished by actively canceling or subtracting from the received signal an intermediate signal in which the weaker signal has been attenuated but the stronger signal remains. Attenuation of the weaker signal in this intermediate signal is accomplished in a feedback loop arrangement by an amplitude-responsive signal processing element embodied from for example a ferrite material such as yttrium iron garnet disposed in a physical wave propagating and wave amplitude sensitive film. The cancellation or subtracting is accomplished using received signals and without need for a direct output sample of the stronger signal at its source. Military aircraft use of the disclosed system in the microwave and other spectral regions with transmission mode as opposed to reflection mode signal amplitude discrimination by the ferrite device is included.

    • A DC offset cancellation circuit comprises a subtracter, a noise shaper, an accumulator and an attenuator. The subtracter is used to subtract a quantized DC offset from a digital signal. The noise shaper converts an unquantized DC offset into the quantized DC offset, the quantized DC offset having fewer bits than the unquantized DC offset and an average value in the time domain that is approximately equal to the unquantized DC offset. The accumulator generates an accumulation value by means of summing the outputs of the subtracter. The attenuator is employed to multiply the accumulation value by a constant, which is less than one, and transmit the resulting initial DC offset to the subtracter.
