摘要： A breakaway coupler includes a main body and a secondary body, removably attached to the main body. First and second attachment features are formed on the main and secondary bodies to permit attachment to first and second structures. A breakaway member connects the main and secondary bodies. A guide channel passes through an overlapped portion of the main and secondary bodies and accepts a cable therein. A blade passes across the guide channel to sever the cable when the secondary body is detached from the main body. In operation, a cable clamp frictionally holds the cable. The cable clamp is connected to the breakaway coupler, which is in turn connected to a fixed structure, e.g., a pole. When an excess force is applied to the cable, the main and secondary bodies of the breakaway coupler separate and the blade cuts the cable in the guide channel.

摘要： An electrical safety disconnect device inserted in overhead power wires to prevent live broken wires from contacting the ground or persons in their vicinity. The device takes the form of a male-female plug combination that automatically separates when the wire experiences a predetermined force generally less than that required to break the wire itself. A band encircles both the male and female components to hold them together and maintain the electrical connection. This band breaks when a predetermined stress pulls on the wires to allow the male and female portions to separate. The device sits on the wire near to the pole closer to the source of electricity. Upon separating, as in a storm for example, the "live" end of the wire hangs above the ground where it cannot contact people or other objects. Placing the female component on this portion of the wire provides additional protection to the environs.

This device includes a movable terminal clamping means or slider that joins the termial ends of the wires of the suspended cable to the bus bars of the incoming power supply lead wires. A detent switch mechanism or means holds the movable terminal clamping means in either a first fixed position or a second cable-released position. The detent switch means also includes a locking means and a trigger means to open the locking means upon a predetermined tension force being exerted on the suspended cable.

摘要： A tensile-force buffering apparatus interposes a physical structure and a drop clamp having a messenger of an input drop cable secured thereto. The tensile-force buffering apparatus includes an outer housing defining an elongate inner cavity and a retainer, and a spring-strut assembly. The spring-strut assembly includes a central shaft, a retention member at a first end of the central shaft, and a coil spring disposed about the central shaft. The spring-strut assembly is received in the cavity of the outer housing, and the retention member is held by the retainer while a load compressing the coil spring is less than a predetermined threshold load. The retention member is released from the outer housing when the load compressing the coil spring reaches the predetermined threshold load, thereby effecting separation of the spring-strut assembly from the outer housing.
