    • A housing (31) has cavities (32A), and a lance for locking terminal fittings (20) in the cavities (32A). A region of a lower wall (33) of the housing (31) forward from the lance (37) is formed as an open part (38). Thus, it is possible to make the entire lower wall (33) thin, and the housing (31) can be inserted into a smaller through-hole (19). A rib (39) projects between the open parts (38) of adjacent cavities (32A) and (32A) to increase a distance water would have to creep between the cavities (32A) and (32A). Therefore if a connector (30) is exposed to water, it is possible to prevent a short circuit between the cavities (32A) and (32A).

    • An electrical connector of the present invention comprises an insulative housing defining a plurality of long and short contact receiving slots and a plurality of corresponding long and short contacts received in the corresponding long and short contact receiving slots. Each slot comprises a horizontal passage and a vertical passage. A notch is defined on a front end of a supporting wall of the horizontal passage of the long contact receiving slot. A cantilever member upwardly extends from a bottom of the notch for interfering with and applying elastic pressure on an embossment of the long contact thus assuring proper orientation of the long contact in the housing.

    • A connector housing has a lock arm for locking a terminal therein. The lock arm deflects in an complete insertion state of the terminal so that a spacer abuts against a side surface of the lock arm. The lock arm is formed with a projection which abuts the incompletely inserted terminal in the spacer advancing direction. The projection may be a plate piece elongated in the longitudinal direction of the lock to be pinched by a pair of a resilient contact plates of the terminal. Alternatively, the lock arm may have a protrusion engaging with an engagement hole formed in the connector housing. The protrusion is a rectangular plate extending from the fore end of the lock arm. An inclined guide surface continuos with the engagement hole may be provided in the connector housing. Alternatively, the connector housing may have an inner embossed wall positioned closely to the deflected lock arm to oppose to the spacer. A clearance between the embossed wall and the lock arm is determined within the elastic deflection limit of the lock arm.

    • A connector has a housing (20) with a receptacle (22) and locks (24) for engaging male terminal fittings (10) in the housing (20). A retainer (30) is mounted in the receptacle (22) and has a preventing plate (31) that projects into a deformation permitting spaces (25) for preventing resilient deformation of locks (24) and doubly locking the terminal fittings (10) in the housing (20). A mating housing (60) can be fit into the receptacle (22) and pushes the retainer (30) back to a pushed-in position while resiliently compressing a spring (43). When the housing (60) is withdrawn from the receptacle (22), the retainer (30) is pushed back by a resilient restoring force of the spring (43). During this time, insertion holes (32) of the retainer (30) move along tabs (12) of the terminal fittings (10) for automatically correcting misalignment.

    • A structure for locking two workpieces includes: a first workpiece 1 provided with a provisional locking arm 3 and a complete locking arm 4 which are in parallel; a second workpiece 2 provided with an arm receiving portion 5 having a provisional engaging area 15 and a complete engaging area 12 which are to be engaged with the provisional locking portion and the complete locking portion, respectively and a pair of arm guiding portions 6 and 7 on both sides of the arm receiving portion, the arm receiving portion being to advance in between the provisional locking arm and the complete locking arm. One of the arm guiding portions is provided with a slope 21 for slidably supporting a tip of the complete locking arm when the complete locking arm climbs over the complete engaging portion. In such a configuration, inadvertent complete-locking or release thereof of two workpieces can be prevented.
