    • An antenna includes a receiver, a horn, a lens, and an anti-reflection layer. The horn has a first end disposed on the receiver and a second end defining an aperture positioned opposite the receiver. The lens is disposed within the aperture of the horn and has a first surface facing inward toward the receiver and a second surface opposite the first surface and facing outward away from the horn. The anti-reflection layer includes a dielectric material and is disposed on the first surface of the lens. Moreover, the anti-reflection layer defines holes arranged in a 50/50 material to void ratio and that have a thickness of a quarter wavelength of a signal received by the antenna.

    • An apparatus includes a lens having a plurality of layers of conductive elements and a plurality of layers of dielectric. Each of the layers of dielectric is disposed between and in contact with two of the layers of conductive elements. Different layers of conductive elements can include different numbers of conductive elements. The layers of conductive elements and the layers of dielectric can form a Cauer/Elliptic frequency selective surface. The lens could include only three layers of conductive elements and only two layers of dielectric, where the lens is a mixed-order frequency selective surface with a middle layer of conductive elements having fewer conductive elements than outer layers of conductive elements. A size of the conductive elements in at least one of the layers of conductive elements could vary as distance from a center of the lens increases.

    • An elliptically polarized (EP) dielectric block antenna comprises a linearly polarized (LP) dielectric block antenna and a wave polarizer integrated with the LP dielectric block antenna. The wave polarizer converts the LP wave of the LP dielectric block antenna into an EP wave or a circularly polarized (CP) wave. The wave polarizer is directly integrated with the LP dielectric block antenna by fabricating inclined slots on faces of the dielectric block at an oblique angle to the LP wave direction of polarization. This provides a very compact EP or CP antenna with a broadside or omnidirectional radiation pattern. The EP or CP antenna is excited by an inner conductor of a SubMiniature version A (SMA) connector that can be directly connected to a coaxial line thereby providing a simple feed network for the antenna.

    • A device with a substrate lens antenna uses a lens shaped dielectric body located on top of a planar feed antenna. A leaky wave antenna structure is used as feed antenna. The leaky wave antenna structure has a feed input and a first and second wave propagation branch extending from the feed input. The lens shaped dielectric body has a plane surface containing a focal point of the lens shaped dielectric body, the plane surface located adjacent the first plane, with the focal point adjacent the position of the feed input. Preferably the lens shaped dielectric body is spaced from the leaky wave structure at a sufficient distance to remove most of the propagation speed reduction effect of the dielectric on wave propagation along the leaky wave antenna. This helps to suppress undesirable side-lobes.

    • An antenna structure has a rotatable dipole array constituting a driven antenna element, a cup mounted around the dipole, a first conductor connected to and extending from the antenna, and a first dielectric mounted around the first conductor. A second conductor is mounted around the first dielectric, and a second dielectric is mounted around the second conductor. A third conductor is mounted around the second dielectric, and the first and second conductors form a quarter-wavelength transformer. The first dielectric maintains a uniform spacing between the first and second conductors, and the third conductor defines a radio-frequency coupling cavity. The second dielectric electrically enlarges the cavity. Thus the physical dimensions of the structure can be reduced without sacrifice of its electrical properties.

    • This invention relates to radio antennae, and in particular to dielectric-clad antennae of the kind comprising a length of conductor the electrical length of which is effectively increased by a cladding of dielectric material. The disclosure describes how the physical height of an antenna, typically an HF or VHF wire monopole antenna can be reduced in relation to its electrical length by means of a thin cladding of dielectric material having a relative magnetic permeability substantially greater than unity, e.g. ferrite. By selecting a material having a relative magnetic permeability substantially greater than its relative dielectric permittivity, a given reduction in antenna height can be achieved with a much thinner cladding than can be achieved using conventional materials.
