    • A tunable radio frequency (RF) duplexer and duplexing methods are disclosed. The tunable RF duplexer includes a first hybrid coupler, a second hybrid coupler, and an RF filter circuit. The first hybrid coupler is operable to split the RF transmission input signal into first and second RF quadrature hybrid transmission signals (QHTSs). The second hybrid coupler is operable to split the RF receive input signal into first and second RF quadrature hybrid receive signals (QHRSs). The RF filter circuit is operable to pass the first and second RF QHTSs to the second hybrid coupler and to reflect the first and second RF QHRSs back to the second hybrid coupler. Additionally, the second hybrid coupler is configured to combine the first and second RF QHTSs into an RF transmission output signal and to combine the first and second RF QHRSs into an RF receive output signal.

    • A low pass microwave filter comprised of a two conductor transmission line including at least two cascaded tapered sections wherein one of the conductors in each filter section has a tapered surface, preferably linear, and having an electrical length substantially equal to one half the wavelength of the center frequency of operation. Geometrically and performance-wise the subject filter is unsymmetrical with respect to its input and output ports. The filter does not exhibit the usual rapid transition between the pass band and stop band which is a general characteristic of conventional low pass microwave filters utilizing reflective harmonic structures.

    • A high frequency microwave energy propagation and restricting device uses a structural arrangement which propagates applied electromagnetic energy with counter-directional phase and group velocity, and the phase velocity is made to be lower or higher than the phase velocity which the electromagnetic energy is propagated. The directionalizing and restriction of the input electromagnetic energy into the device is controlled by means of an arrangement using a high-pass filter wherein the phase velocity and the group velocity of the electromagnetic waves are opposed to each other; alternatively, the device uses a low-pass filter wherein the group velocity and phase velocity of the electromagnetic waves have the same direction. The high-frequency energy propagation and restricting devices as of the present invention may be advantageously utilized and applied in microwave energy ovens or furnaces which may be of the static or the conveyor type. The device of the invention makes it possible to prevent and/or monitor loss of microwave energy from the zone in which energy is intended to be utilized to treat a workpiece or a product.
