A double ended, tipless filament tube or arc tube light source incorporates a drawn-down tubular body, and one piece foliated leads with spurs for process handling and for spudding into a filament with stretched-out legs. Bugled ends on the body provide a novel cutoff means, facilitate a flush-fill finishing process, and enhance mounting and support of the light sources in lamps. The foliated leads are made from a continuous length of wire in a process including foil hammering and two-bath AC electrochemical etching. Cost-reduced light source and lamp production enables affordable household consumer lamps, even when containing two series-connected halogen filament tubes. Safety benefits ensue from series connection, especially in combination with disclosed body and filament constructions.

    • The sections of the filament of a projection lamp are stretched over two sets of supports anchored in glass beams which are fixed on the rigid current supply conductors to form a frame. The supports each consist of a wire having a hooked end which engages the filament between a respective pair of adjacent sections. The supports of at least one set each have an end portion extending transverse to the main link of the support. Each end portion is located at the same given distance from the bend of the hook, and preferably extends from a free end of the hook. This permits each section to be under the same tension.

    • An improved miniature size electric lamp is disclosed wherein an outer wire lead of the lamp is flattened and adhesively bonded to the inside rim of the base shell with an electrically-conducting basing cement. A method of manufacture for said lamp construction is also disclosed wherein the flattened section of the wire lead is aligned to lie in a plane approximately tangent to the envelope wall of the lamp prior to positioning the lamp envelope for assembly to the base shell. A layer of electrically-conducting basing cement is located around the periphery of the base shell to provide improved electrical contact between the side wire lead and the base shell. An insulating cement is applied to the remaining eyelet contacting wire lead at the glass to metal junction and extends a sufficient distance along the lead to electrically insulate this wire lead from the electrically conducting cement. The particular lamp construction further can utilize an electrically insulating basing cement to adhesively bond the lamp envelope to the base shell having the same resin binder as employed in the electrically-conducting basing cement so that both cements can be heat-cured simultaneously during a single operation in conventional automatic lamp manufacturing equipment.
