    • A thermal electron emission backlight unit includes: first and second substrates arranged parallel to each other; first and second anode electrodes respectively arranged on inner surfaces between the first and second substrates; wall frames adapted to seal an inner space between the first and second substrates; a movable spacer holder and a fixed spacer holder arranged inside the wall frames to face each other; a plurality of spacers arranged between the first and second substrates and adapted to maintain a gap therebetween, wherein ends of the spacers are coupled to the movable and fixed spacer holders; a plurality of cathode electrodes arranged across the spacers between the first and second substrates; and a phosphor layer arranged on the second anode electrode. The spacers include tension spacers adapted to provide tension between the movable and fixed spacer holders by pushing the movable spacer holder away from the fixed spacer holder. The first substrate is adapted to pass white light therethrough.

    • A gridded electron tube suitable for generating high power at high frequency, has a cathode surface composed of a set of parallel emitting strips separated by non-emitting strips. Massive grid bars are aligned over the non-emitting strips, thereby reducing grid current interception and providing thermal dissipation. Attached to the side of the grid bars facing the cathode is an array of closely spaced fine wires which increase the electric field due to the grid at the emitting surface, and decrease the penetration of field due to the anode, thereby increasing the transconductance and amplification factor, decreasing the transit time of electrons, and improving the uniformity of emission current density.

    • In a cathode-ray tube an inline electron gun assembly includes a center cathode assembly disposed between two outer cathode assemblies. The center cathode assembly and the outer cathode assemblies each comprise a tubular cathode sleeve having oppositely disposed ends, a filament disposed within the sleeve and spaced therefrom, and a cathode eyelet coaxially surrounding at least a portion of the cathode sleeve. The cathode sleeve is open at one end and closed at the other end by a cap having an electron emissive material thereon. The open end of the cathode sleeve is attached to the interior surface of the eyelet. At least a portion of the interior surface of at least one of the eyelets is modified to change the radiant energy emission characteristics thereof.
