    • A memory comprises a multilayer Langmuir-Blodgett film (1) in which each layer (2) is capable of carrying a charge. A photo-injector layer (D) is located on one side of the film for introducing charges into the film in a time sequence which corresponds to the information to be carried. Voltage source (6) is provided for applying a voltage between the faces of the film to cause the charge carried by any layer to be transferred to the adjacent layer. The sequence of charges carried by the film may be read out by a photon-emitting electron arrival detector (F) on the opposite side of the film, or by a method of current differentiation. The film (1) is preferably formed of a polydiacetylene.

    • A storage disk comprising at least one data track which is composed of spiral-shaped turns or concentrical turns, the data being arranged in the form of data blocks on the turns so that between the data blocks alternately a guide segment or a blank segment is present. The lengths of the unit, measured in angular degrees, consisting of data block and guide segment and the unit consisting of data block and blank segment are substantially the same and are chosen so that the same number of units is accommodated in each turn. The spirals are sub-divided into sectors which contain only data blocks or only guide segments or blank segments. In each sector containing guide segments the radial distance between these segments is substantially twice the distance between the data blocks in each sector containing data blocks. The invention also relates to a device for writing and/or reading data of a rotating disk as described, comprising a light deflection system which notably includes a slow light deflector and a fast light deflector, the latter deflector scanning the guide segments.

    • A randomly accessible memory display is disclosed wherein a latching memory panel can be placed in direct optical contact with the triggering electroluminescent panel having a similar matrix. Once the glowing light from the trigger panel shines on the photosensitive resistive layer providing positive feedback, the corresponding region in the latching memory panel is latched. In accordance with the invention, a technique is disclosed for electrically reading the latched state in any one cell. This is done by selectively propagating a high frequency sinusoidal interrogation signal through each of the Y axis lines connected to the cells and measuring any phase alteration in each of the X axis lines connected to the cells, for each Y axis line interrogated. Since the resistance of the photosensitive resistor for a particular latching cell is altered if that cell is emitting light, the impedance of the cell is changed, thereby introducing a phase shift to the interrogation signal. The detection of the phase shift indicates whether the selected cell is latched in its light-emitting or light-extinguished state.

    • A close-packed magnetic bubble propagation device includes a pattern having a plurality of propagation elements positioned in at least four adjacent rows. These elements are spaced to provide a period or spacing of bubbles in these rows of less than three bubble diameters. Upon application of a rotating in-plane field to the elements, bubbles in adjacent rows move in opposite directions. A preferred embodiment of this propagation device has at least two storage loops which contain at least four adjacent horizontal rows of propagation elements. A preferred device utilizing this pattern has at least two storage loops and an access path which passes through each of the loops. An electrical conductor is associated with the propagation elements in the access path so that the passing of a current through the conductor together with the application of an in-plane rotating field to the elements causes bubbles associated with the elements in the access path to move along the access path. Preferably, the pattern is surrounded by an array of confinement elements which confine the bubbles to the storage loops and the access path.
