    • A motor drive apparatus for a disc player which includes a pickup, a pickup shift mechanism for shifting a position of the pickup and an automatic loading mechanism for loading a jacketed disc into the disc player. The motor drive apparatus comprises a motor for actuating the pickup shift mechanism and automatic loading mechanism, a servo controller for servo-controlling the rotation of the motor according to the position of the pickup so that a tracking servo control for the pickup is effected by the pickup shift mechanism, a position sensor for sensing the position of a jacket of the jacketed disc, an actuation controller for controlling the rotation of the motor according to the position of the jacket so that automatic loading of the jacketed disc is performed, and a mode instructor for selectively connecting one of the servo controller and actuation controller to the motor. Only the tracking servo control is effected when the mode instructor connects the servo controller to the motor, and only the automatic loading of the jacketed disc is effected when the mode instructor connects the actuation controller to the motor.

    • An apparatus for reproducing rotary recording media has an inserting opening on its front side. A rotary recording medium is accommodated within a case having a jacket and a lid member for closing an opening of the jacket. The apparatus has a mechanism for enlarging the opening of the jacket as it is inserted into the opening. This mechanism couples with the jacket as it moves over a turntable positioned between the inserting opening and a rear part of the reproducing apparatus. A switch mechanism (comprising a microswitch) detects a movement of the jacket opening enlarging mechanism. The microswitch is positioned opposite the jacket opening enlarging mechanism and near the inserting opening. The microswitch remains operated as long as the jacket opening enlarging mechanism is moved away from the inserting opening. The microswitch returns to normal when the jacket opening enlarging mechanism moves back to its normal position near the inserting opening.

    • Information signals are reproduced from a disc-shaped recording medium which was accommodated within a case. The case has a jacket with space for accommodating the disc-shaped recording medium therein and an opening through which the disc-shaped recording medium can enter and leave the jacket. A lid member may be inserted through the opening of the jacket for covering and closing the opening. The apparatus for reproducing the disc comprises an inserting opening through which the case is manually inserted. A holding mechanism holds either the disc-shaped recording medium or the lid member at an innermost part of the reproducing apparatus and on the side opposite of the inserting opening. A turntable is located between the inserting opening and the holding mechanism. A push-back mechanism includes energy storing members which are urged responsive to a disc insertion operation in which the case is inserted through the inserting opening and into the innermost part of the reproducing apparatus. The case is pushed back responsive to a release of the pushing and inserting force acting on the case. The push back occurs in response to a use of the stored energy forces. The case is pushed back in a direction which is opposite to the direction of the insertion of the case, so that after push back a part of the case projects outwardly from the inserting opening.

    • The present invention relates to a recording disc reproducing device wherein a disc like recording medium is held in a disc case having an opening at one end thereof, for insertion and removal of the disc like recording medium. The disc like recording medium remains inside the body of the device after pulling out the disc case which has been inserted to a predetermined position in the body of the device. The opening of the disc case inserted into the body of the device is expanded to be opened by an opening mechanism and after the disc case has been inserted part way into the device the disc case is secured by a latch connected to the opening mechanism. Further movement of the disc case into the device is possible after the latch engages the disc case.

    • An optical disc drive system in which the empty sleeve component of an optical disc cartridge is utilized to lock the optical disc in its operational position while occupying a storage location within the drive system. The locking/storage feature is achieved by providing adjacent to the conventional disc insertion opening in the drive frame an additional opening for receipt of the empty sleeve component and by providing guides within the drive for positioning the empty sleeve over the optical disc. The empty sleeve cooperates with a spring loaded frame/disc lowering mechanism which lowers the optical disc to the drive spindle where it is held by a magnetic force generated by a magnetized portion of the spindle. The sleeve also cooperates with a frame/sleeve latching mechanism to facilitate withdrawal of a frame supported optical disc from the sleeve and reinsertion of the frame supported optical disc back into the sleeve. A plurality of spring loaded members support the frame member before the sleeve actuates the lowering mechanism and free the optical disc from the spindle upon withdrawal of the sleeve from its locking/storage position.
