摘要： A phonograph wherein the vibrations set up by a record groove in a reproducing stylus on a tone arm are transmitted, without conversion into electric signals, to a diaphragm overlying the tone arm. Arranged between the tone arm and diaphragm is an intermediate vibrator which has a vibrator rod extending upwardly therefrom. The diaphragm is conical in shape, is secured to the phonograph casing at the periphery of its base, and has an aperture at its vertex to receive the vibrator rod with clearance. The intermediate vibrator is spring biased into contact with the tone arm, and the vibrator rod also spring biased into contact with the edge of the diaphragm bounding the aperture. This aperture can be reinforced with a hollow member which will receive the vibrator rod with clearance.

[1 April 1969] 14278/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] An acoustic damping structure comprises a substrate adhered to an unconstrained layer of a viscoelastic material containing at least 35% by volume of irregularly shaped non-uniformly sized filler particles having a specific gravity of at least 2À5 and a maximum dimension of 0À1 millimetres, the average dimensional ratio (defined) of the largest to the smallest particle being at least 40:1. It is preferred that the particle sizes of the filler be uniformly distributed throughout the range. Suitable fillers are iron powder, iron pyrites, ilmenite ore and finely ground silica sand. Preferred viscoelastic materials are polyurethane elastomers, elastomeric dipolymers of ethylene and propylene, a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and a non-conjugated diene, an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer or a methyl methacrylate/2- ethylhexyl acrylate/methacrylic acid terpolymer that has been reacted with propylene imine. Substrates which may be damped include metallic sheet structures e.g. of steel and non- metallic sheet structures such as plywood and hardboard building panels, gypsum wall board and reinforced plastic sheets. Conventional adhesives e.g. epoxy and neoprene adhesives may be used to adhere the substrate to sheets of viscoelastic composition.
