    • A distance education system for providing an educational service to a user via a network is provided, the system includes: education providing part for providing the educational service utilizing at least one educational material to the user via the network, wherein the educational material includes a plurality of elements; test transmission part for transmitting a test to the user by each predetermined stage and for prompting the user to send an answer to the test, wherein the test is associated with the educational material; evaluation part for receiving the answer from the user via the network to evaluate it; and evaluation transmission means for transmitting the evaluation result by the evaluation part to the user.

    • Evaluation of competence in broad domains presents a major challenge to educators. Review of the literature on portfolio assessment suggests that it may be the ideal venue for assessing competence. The portfolio allows the learner to be creative and in the process facilitates reflective learning that is a key component in professional development. The portfolio also has the capacity to provide an infrastructure for the variety of assessment tools that are needed to evaluate the diverse domains of competence. In addition, the web-based infrastructure provides a platform for national study of the assessment tools that have been developed in the step towards evidence-based education. Thus the portfolio serves as an evaluation tool on three levels: 1) individual resident assessment, 2) program assessment based on aggregate data of resident performance and 3) provision of a national data base that facilitates the study of the educational process by studying assessment tools and impact of educational interventions. Discussed is the implementation of a web-based evaluation portfolio for residency training in a medical education program.

    • A method for scoring an answer page containing an answer to an open-ended question includes viewing a first visual image of a first portion of an answer page. The first portion contains an answer space in which an answer to an open-ended question is expected to reside. If the first portion of the answer page contains a complete answer, the answer is electronically scored. If the first portion of the answer page does not encompass a complete answer, a second visual image of a second portion of the answer page is accessed and viewed. The second portion contains a sector of the answer page outside the answer space. A method is also provided for delivering an answer page to a reader for scoring.

    • The invention relates to a system and method for delivering on-demand educational materials via distributed networks, such as the internet, wireless networks, etc. An end-user may login to the system, request training on a variety of subjects, receive on-demand multimedia training material, provide payment, be tested to ensure that they have understood the training material, and have a notification sent to an employer, government agency, or other entity that has mandated or requested that the end-user has received specified training. The system is particularly useful for ensuring compliance with mandatory training schemes, such as continuing legal education, where private entities may make training available to end-users, while a government entity must track the amount and nature of training received by large groups of individuals.
