    • A mechanism for automatic reallocation of shared external storage structures is provided. The shared external storage divides the dynamically allocable storage into fixed sized blocks referred to as allocation units. To create an object of a specific type, the shared external storage uses some number of allocation units. If the object will fit in one allocation unit, then it is placed in one allocation unit. If the object is larger than one allocation unit, then the appropriate number of allocation units is obtained and chained together to contain all of the information of the required object. When an object so allocated is no longer needed, the shared external storage breaks the object down to a set of one or more fixed sized allocation units. The shared external storage then returns the allocation units to the pool of available objects.

    • In one embodiment, a method includes powering on a testing system, whereby a unit present signal is included in the system, the unit present signal communicating to a management complex unit (MCU) that a unit under test (UUT) has been inserted into a corresponding architecture, the signal being sent through a relay such that it can be sent or connected at a later time. The UUT is installed in the system and a programming protocol is initiated. The system is then powered off, whereby the unit present signal is set to open and the system is subsequently powered on.When the UUT is plugged in, the MCU does not see it. The system can include a second relay that allows power being fed to the UUT to be broken such that when the UUT is subsequently powered up, the board is reset and not removed from the architecture.

    • In the data processing system which maintains data duplication between sites having a host computer and a storage apparatus, transfer-data volume and cost in communication line between the sites are controlled and the load of both primary and secondary hosts is controlled, and a data update management function at the secondary site side is realized. In the primary site, a primary DKC of primary storage apparatus stores an update data in a primary side file when a primary user data is updated from a primary host. Being asynchronous with this update, a secondary remote copy program of a primary remote copy program and an intermediate processing section remote-copies and accumulates the update data in a secondary side file. A data reflection program of a secondary host reads the accumulated data and commands a secondary DKC of a secondary storage apparatus to reflect it on a secondary user data and stores the update information in a secondary log data.
