    • A toner having a medium-resistance external additive, and an image forming apparatus which uses the toner. The medium-resistance external additive coating ratio of particles, of which mother particles have equivalent diameters smaller or larger than a diameter of a mother particle diameter, which is equal to the mean particle diameter of the toner, is set to be higher than a virtual reference curve in synchronous distribution of the particle diameters of synchronous medium-resistance external additive particles, relative to the diameters of mother particles. Further, the medium-resistance external additive coating ratios of particles in a range in which mother particles have diameters smaller than d1, and in a range in which mother particles have diameters larger than d2, are set to be higher than a virtual reference curve in synchronous distribution of the particle diameters of synchronous medium-resistance external additive particles relative to the diameters of mother particles.

    • An image forming apparatus having a tandem system configuration, includes: a multiple number of photoreceptors which each form an electrostatic latent image; and a multiple number of developing devices each holding a different color toner from the others for development of the corresponding static latent image, and is constructed so that the plural toners at least include a black toner, and the abrading force of the black toner or its carrier therein acting on the photoreceptor surface is adjusted so as to be smaller than that of the other developing toners or their carrier therein. Since, in a tandem type color image forming apparatus, the developing devices, photoreceptors and toners for all colors will reach the end of their life at the same time, the image forming apparatus can be operated at low cost.

    • A coated carrier having a core particle coated with a mixture of an electronegative insulating polymer comprising a polyvinylidenefluoride polymer or copolymer and an electropositive conductive polymer comprising a polymethyl methacrylate polymer or copolymer with a conductive material dispersed therein is made by powder coating. The coated carrier has unique properties, including a conductivity of from 1.1×10−14 to 1.0×10−8 mho-cm−1, a triboelectric charging value of from 12 to 20 and an average particle diameter of from 65 to 75, rendering the coated carrier ideal for use in a developer to be used in a magnetic brush type development apparatus. The powder coating method includes mixing the core particle and the mixture of negatively charging polymer and conductive polymer until the mixture of negatively charging polymer and conductive polymer adheres to the core particle, heating the mixture of the core particle and the mixture of negatively charging polymer and conductive polymer until the mixture of negatively charging polymer and conductive polymer melts and fuses to the core particle, and cooling the coated core obtained.
