    • A method of and an apparatus for operating a circulating fluidized bed reactor having a furnace with a discharge port for exhaust gas, and a particle separator having an inlet connected to the exhaust gas discharge port and an outlet duct for the exhaust gas and a return duct for separated solids. The method includes the steps of arranging a bypass duct bypassing the particle separator, and conducting a partial flow of exhaust gas along the duct for increasing the fly ash content in the exhaust gas after the separator. The bypass duct is advantageously provided with means for controlling the flow of exhaust gas in the bypass duct.

    • A gasifier is disclosed. The gasifier comprises a primary chamber for receiving therein biomass waste material and other related volatile solids to be gasified. A fume transfer vent permits the escape of fumes from the primary chamber. A mixing chamber accepts the fumes from the fume transfer vent. The fumes then flow to an afterburner chamber where a burner member produces a heating flame so as to cause the additional full oxidization of the constituents of the fumes so as to oxidize the constituents. A partitioning wall is disposed between the flame chamber and the primary chamber so as to preclude the heating flame from entering the primary chamber and to also preclude the radiation from the heating flame from directly entering the primary chamber, thereby precluding direct contact and physical disturbance of the waste material. A heat transfer chamber in fluid communication with the afterburner chamber accepts the fully oxidized fumes therefrom. The heat from the full oxidation of the fumes causes heating of the heat transfer chamber. The primary chamber has a heat conductive floor and is superimposed on the heat transfer chamber with the heat conductive floor being disposed in separating relation therebetween so as to permit conductive and convective heating of the primary chamber, thus causing heating of the waste in the primary chamber. An exhaust vent in fluid communication with the heat transfer chamber permits venting the fumes to the ambient surroundings.

    • An animal carcass incineration process comprising the steps of: providing a large hopper with a large spring loaded trap door at the top, a series of stationary and rotating blades in the center and a second set of spring loaded doors below. The hopper features a double walled construction which serves to keep the blade drive gears and rollers away from the carcasses as they are being processed through the rotating blades. The carcass hopper blade assembly incorporates a slide out drawer allowing the entire unit to slide out for maintenance and cleaning. A ramp is provided that leads to the top of the hopper to allow a rendering truck to dump carcasses directly into the hopper. A large pipe is provided with an opening beneath the bottom of the hopper and includes a hydraulically driven auger for forcing the shredded carcasses upward along the pipe. A very hot exhaust gas pipe is vented into the auger pipe and is used for removing moisture from the carcass to be burned. Once the carcass remains have reached the top of the auger pipe they are dumped into an incinerator unit that is driven by a hot blower induced oil fire. Heavy smoke and ash from this first stage burning then enters a secondary incineration area that incorporates burning via natural gas. The remaining exhaust gases enter a multi-level filter to catch remaining particles.

    • An incinerator and a process for the incineration of animal carcasses. The inner combustion chamber of the incinerator is lined with a high temperature fibrous insulation material and a stainless steel liner thereby permitting the temperature of the liner to become very hot during incineration. The animal carcass is deposited directly onto the stainless steel liner. Heat is then applied to the chamber, and the liner becomes red hot and radiates heat onto the carcass from all sides of the chamber. The burners are controlled by temperature responsive control devices to maintain the combustion chamber within a desired temperature range. In another embodiment, a stainless steel wall is disposed within the interior of the incinerator housing to form a combustion chamber and an afterburner chamber alongside the combustion chamber. The afterburner chamber includes a separate burner located near the bottom of the incinerator for heating the air as it enters the afterburner chamber. The stainless steel wall radiates heat between the combustion and afterburner chambers.

    • A livestock incinerator is provided, and includes a compartment or incineration chamber defined by opposite sidewalls, opposite end walls, a bottom wall, and an open top which is selectively closed by a plurality of lids pivotally connected to the walls of the incinerator. The interior of the incinerator is lined with firebricks, including all the walls and the lids. The firebricks are secured in place by a plurality of T-shaped brackets which define channels for receiving the edges of the firebricks. A primary burner is operatively connected to the incinerator for heating the chamber such that the carcasses burn to ashes. An exhaust stack is connected to one of the lids, and includes an afterburner for further combusting the products of combustion from the chamber so as to prevent atmospheric pollution. The primary burner and afterburner are operatively connected in series so that if one burner fails to operate, the other burner will automatically cease operation.

    • A crematory loader apparatus is provided for loading objects to be incinerated into a preheated crematory. The loader has a frame along with a slidable support surface attached to the frame for supporting an object thereon which slides in a track supporting the slidable top surface during sliding of the top surface between a first position for loading the object onto the slidable support surface and a second position canterlevering the slidable support surface into the crematory. A plurality of legs are attached to the frame and support the frame and the slidable support surface. A stop member is movably attached to the frame and has a first position out of the path of an object on the slidable support surface and a second position blocking the path of the object on the slidable support surface to block the movement of the object when the slidable top surface is moved from the second position to the first position to thereby force the object into the crematory as the slidable support surface is withdrawn from its second canterlevered position. The slidable support surface has rollers thereon with a ramp at one end with a roller thereon to slide an object off the slidable support surface. The support surface is moved by an electric motor driven chain drive.

    • The cremator disclosed is of the kind in which reduction burning takes place in a coffin chamber, followed by oxidation burning in an afterburner chamber. It is also of the kind in which partly cremated embers can be moved to an ember-reducing location to make room for another coffin to be admitted to the coffin chamber. The disclosure shows the ash removal port in the side of the cremator, which allows the afterburner chamber to occupy space behind and underneath the coffin chamber; an arrangement which makes for a very compact, fuel efficient, easy-to-construct unit. The hearth includes an ash-trough for ember reduction. The hearth can be thin because it is supported on the central wall that divides the ducts of the afterburner chamber, which makes for good heat transfer, and quick warm-up.
