    • A water heater includes a water tank, a combustion chamber below the tank and communicating with the flue tube, and a flue system. The flue system includes a flue tube, and V-shaped fins that are metallurgically bonded to the flue tube wall to divide the flue tube into four flue chambers extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the flue tube. The V-shaped fins include radially extending apertures that reduce the thermal expansion of the V-shaped fins with respect to the flue tube to reduce stress at the joint between the fins and the flue tube. The flue system also includes a removable baffle hanging in each flue chamber. The baffles include adjustable turbulation surfaces to control the quality of combustion in the water heater.

    • A quadrangular type multi-tube once-through boiler having an arrangement in which a feed path combuation air, combuation chamber, and an exhaust gas channel passing through a flue are alined in substantially the same plane, and provided with a burner duct (5) and a blower (4) each installed in any desired regions in lateral wall portions (s.sub.1, s.sub.2, s.sub.3 and s.sub.4) defining the width of the boiler body (1). The boiler body (1) comprises an assembly (A) of a plurality of substantially vertically disposed water tubes (10), so that combuation gas flows crosswise of the water tubes (10). A burner (3) is disposed in close adjacency to the first row (1.sub.1) of water tubes the water tube assembly (A), whereby even if fuel from the burner is ignited in a space between the first row (1.sub.1) of water tubes and the burner (3), actual combuation does not proceed to completion therebetween but the most of the unburnt gas burns completely while it flows through water tube clearances.

    • A solid fuel burning hot water heater is described having a primary combustion chamber with a refractory material base portion which forms the locus of combustion. A water jacket defines an upright portion over the refractory base portion for receiving a charge of fuel in a generally vertical stack. The water jacket is coupled to a source of water for at least convection circulation and assists in confining the locus of solid fuel combustion to the base of the chamber. Heat exchange channels or pathways are defined around the outer periphery of the water jacket in heat exchange relationship with the water jacket for transfer of heat from the end products of combustion to the circulating water. A flue gas delay channel arrangement extends from the draft outlet at the base of the combustion chamber to the heat exchange pathways. The delay channel pathways provide delayed propagation of gaseous products of primary combustion in a high temperature refractory environment sufficient to afford substantially complete secondary burning. In the preferred configuration the flue gas delay channel provides pathways coaxially around the walls of the refractory base portion of the primary combustion chamber while the heat exchange pathways are formed coaxially around the water jacket. An opening is formed between the flue gas delay channel pathways and the heat exchange channel pathways. The refractory base portion walls of the primary combustion chamber may be formed in a "U" shaped or arcuate configuration.

    • A continuous steam generator including a combustion chamber with a plurality of burners for fossil fuel is provided. A vertical gas duct is connected downstream of the combustion chamber on the hot gas side, in an upper region via a horizontal gas duct. The outside wall of the combustion chamber is formed from evaporation pipes which are welded together in a gas-tight manner and mounted upstream of a water separator system on the flow medium side and from superheater pipes which are welded together in a gas-tight manner and mounted downstream of the water separator system. The water separator system includes a plurality of water separation elements, each element includes an inlet tube which is connected to the respective upstream evaporation for tubes, which extend into a water evacuation tube. A distributer element is arranged on the evaporator side between the respective water separator element and the inlet collector.

    • A heater module having a cylindrical heat exchanger surrounding a central cavity and burner wherein an end manifold is covered with a layer of insulation to reduce the temperature differential between the outer annular trough of the manifold and the inner central flat disk which covers the end of the cavity. The annular trough and the disk are stamped from a unitary piece of plate steel. Without the insulation, the disk would heat to a temperature much higher than the annular trough because the trough communicates with tubes of the heat exchanger and contains recirculating liquid. By reducing the temperature differential, less strain is put on the end manifold as a result of nonuniform expansion.

    • A liquid or solid fuel-fired boiler for a central heating system is disclosed comprising a combustion chamber and a heat exchanger arranged therearound and connected in a heating fluid circuit comprising an upper header and a lower header interconnected by straight, parallel spaced apart tubular elements for communication therebetween. The tubular elements are disposed along the lateral sides and the back side of the boiler and are embedded in refractory material. Cylindrical interstitial spaces are formed between the tubular elements and the surrounding refractory material to prevent stresses. Flow passages between the tubular elements and the headers are of progressively decreasing cross-sectional area from the back to the front of the boiler thus improving heating fluid flow and temperature uniformity. The lower edge of a cowl defines a throttle passage with the refractory material to control the flow of flue gases to the flue duct.
