    • An emergency safety switch for a safety control system used to terminate the operation of one or more automated machines includes a stop circuit that is electrically connected to a connection port. The connection port includes a pair of interface ports for in-line serial connection to a wiring circuit provided by the safety control system to monitor various emergency safety switch and other detection devices. As such, the connection port provides a quick and easy manner for attaching and detaching the emergency safety switch to the wiring circuit, which facilitates efforts to install a sufficient number of emergency stop switches on an automated production line.

    • The invention relates to an overload protection device which has a force-loaded or torque-loaded component, a chamber for receiving a fluid which is at a predetermined pressure, and at least two transmitting elements which are connected to said component in a force-transmitting manner. The transmitting elements serve to transmit a counter-force or a counter-torque, which is generated by the pressure acting upon said transmitting elements, to the component, and is, at the same time, part of a sealing arrangement which occludes an outlet of the chamber due to the fluid pressure. If the force or torque acting upon the component are greater than the counter-force or counter-torque resulting from the predetermined pressure, the sealing arrangement unblocks the outlet, as a result of which the pressure in the chamber drops below said predetermined pressure.

    • The front bearing for a landing gear trunion is carried by a rear wing spar and the rear bearing is carried by a landing gear beam which is pivotly attached at its inner end to the body frame. A main attach pin pivotally connects the outer end of such beam to a pair of connector plates, one located on each side of the connection. A pair of shear pins connect the connector plates to a short cantilever beam which is connected to and projects inwardly from the rear wing spar, generally in line with the landing gear beam. One of the shear pins is positioned generally horizontally outwardly from the main attach pin. The second shear pin is positioned generally vertically below the main attach pin. Generally vertical overloads are carried by the lower shear pin load and such shear pin is designed to fracture in response to a load slightly below the vertical load reacting capability of the reaction structure. Generally horizontal overloads are carried by the upper pin or by both pins together which are sized to break under loads slightly below the horizontal load reacting capability of the reaction structure.

    • Safety apparatus for a bacon press or the like including a transparent safety door movable vertically between a raised retracted position in which a slab of bacon or other work to be pressed may be readily placed in the press and in which a pressed slab of bacon or the like may be removed from the press, and a lowered position in which access to the movable parts of the press is blocked. Movement of the safety door from its raised to its lowered position initiates operation of the press. Partial opening of the door during operation of the press immediately stops the press. The door is automatically raised at the end of an operating cycle of the press. The safety apparatus also includes the provision of safety screens which may be readily raised and locked in their raised position to permit access to the press and which may be readily lowered.

    • A system for preventing the free fall of the platen of a vertical molding machine in the event of failure of the connection between the drive rod and the platen. A hydraulic network is employed to enable the movement of the platen. The network employs a counterbalancing circuit to permit raising the rod and platen and for preventing the gravitational fall of the rod and platen. The operation of this hydraulic circuit is controlled by valves which transfer the hydraulic fluid between the two ends of the respective cylinders, and a storage tank (to store the difference in volume between the rod end and cap end of the respective cylinders). With fluid flowing from the cap end of cylinders to the rod end of said cylinders, the platen may descend. With fluid remaining in the cylinders, the piston and platen cannot descend without the fluid being transferred back to the other end of said cylinder by operation of an electrically controlled valving arrangement. A normally open (held closed by presence of the rod) switch is connected into the operating path of the valving network. The switch control mechanism senses the continued engagement of the rod and platen and opens on the release of this engagement to open the valve operating circuit and prevent descent of the ram and platen.

The path or displacement switch responds when the tool moved by the press ram has come to a distance or almost to a distance from the other tool which corresponds to a previously given thickness of the workpiece with the switching element being constructed as a signal transmitter which is responsive to a retardation or increase in resistance in the movement of the press ram in the working stroke direction.

    • A high response relief or unloading valve is disclosed for use in a pressurized hydraulic system. The valve includes a housing supporting a reciprocable spool valve element having opposite ends cooperable with separate fluid receiving chambers in the housing and which chambers receive fluid at a given system pressure. The valve includes a common discharge passage for the chambers and to which one of the chambers is opened before the other and in response to fluid pressure in the other chamber exceeding the given system pressure. Movement of the spool element in the opening direction is accelerated by the decrease in fluid bias in the one chamber and the excess pressure in the other chamber, and the spool element is structured for the opening movement thereof to be decelerated following release of the fluid at excess pressure from the other chamber.
