    • A sequential mixing cartridge (10), for use with a cold and hot water mixing device, comprises with entry openings (15, 16) for cold water and hot water and with a delivery opening (18) for mixed water. The interior of the body houses a sequential mixing slide valve (19) as well as operating members (25) for this mechanism partially protruding from the body. The shape and outside dimensions of the body as well as the arrangement of the inlet openings for cold water and hot water and for delivery of mixed water substantially match the construction and dimensions of a thermostatic mixing cartridge, thus achieving complete interchangeability with it. The sequential mixing mechanism (19) is preferably constructed to provide a delivery shut-off control member extension (21) for regulating the flow rate. Preferably, the body has inlet openings (15, 16) for cold water and hot water on its outer surface and the delivery opening (18) for mixed water at its axial end that is axially opposite to the control member (25).

    • A fluid pressure device including a housing (13) defining a high pressure port (31) and a low pressure port (33). The housing defines a shuttle bore (35) and disposed therein is a shuttle valve assembly (51) including a shuttle spool (63). The shuttle spool (63) defines a fluid passage (87) disposed to provide fluid communication from the low pressure chamber (57) to the shuttle outlet port (85) as the shuttle spool moves from its neutral position (FIG. 2) to the end of its centered range of positions (FIG. 3). The low pressure fluid from the chamber (57) is communicated through the fluid passage (87) and acts on a shuttle poppet member (75), aiding the shuttle spool (63) and its shoulder (67) and unseating (opening) the poppet member (75), thus reducing the fluid pressure in the high pressure chamber (55) required to begin opening the shuttle valve assembly (51). Thus, diversion of fluid, for cooling or lubrication, will occur over a greater range of device operating pressures, minimizing the chance for damage to system components.

    • A bypass valve for directing fluid flow, where the bypass valve includes a valve body with a notch in at least one end thereof and a spool seated within the valve body. The spool is rotatable within the valve body. One preferred embodiment of the present invention also includes at least one endcap attached to an axial end portion of the spool, where the endcap includes a protrusion extending thereon for preventing relative rotation between the spool and the valve body when the protrusion is positioned within the notch. A further aspect of the present invention relates to a bypass valve with a valve body including a plurality of ports and a generally cylindrical inner periphery, as well as a spool seated within the valve body, where the spool is rotatable and axially translatable within the valve body. The spool further preferably includes a top seal seated upon a seal seating surface, where the top seal acts in one mode to block a service inlet port, without blocking the other ports, or, in another mode, blocks the service inlet port and the service outlet port, without blocking the other ports.
