    • An actuator with an electric motor which drives an activation element, such as a rotatable arm or a longitudinally movable rod, via a transmission. The transmission has at least two transmission stages, the first one being formed by a worm drive, the second one being formed by a crown and bevel wheel (5; 4a, 4b), the bevel wheel (4a, 4b) being driven by the worm wheel (3a, 3b), and the crown wheel (5) having a power take-off (15). The transmission may readily be formed so that the axis of the crown wheel (5) is in direct extension of the worm (2). A relatively compact transmission with a high gearing may be achieved hereby, and with worm wheel as well as crown and bevel wheel of plastics the transmission is also comparatively noiseless.

    • A speed reducer in a portable electric tool is specifically referred to a powered tool for automotive repair with lighter weight and 12V direct current motor. The speed reducer comprises a casing to be attached by the 12V direct current motor, an end planetary gear set driven by the motor, and an output shaft rotary attached to the casing and driven by the planetary gear set. The speed reducer is characterized in that the output shaft at an end thereof provides an internal gear disk with internal circular teeth to mesh with two oppositely parallel positioned over pins provided on each gear of end planetary gear set. Hence, the output shaft can be driven to rotate by the planetary gear set instead of gears of the planetary gear set directly meshing with the output shaft. In this way, the disadvantage of loosening apart easily resided in the prior art can be corrected and the torque of output shaft can be increased greatly for saving the effort of user.

    • A positive gear engagement transmission affords a continuously variable ratio between input and output rotational speeds. A circular rack journalled for rotation about a center axle or hub has inner and outer arrays of teeth. Inner and outer planet gears have arrays of teeth engaged with each other and with the inner and outer rack array of teeth for counter-rotation about their respective axles. The ratio of the rack array radii is equal to the ratio of the velocities of the planet gears along their racks. One or more linking gears can be used in addition to the planet gears to provide any desired axle orientation and force transmitting structure. A control force is applied to the planet gear support structure so as to apply unidirectional or opposing forces upon the axles of the planet gears to accomplish the variation of energy transferred between the rack and the planet gear assembly.

    • A joint may have a multi-stage planetary gearbox between the stationary housing and the rotary housing. To accommodate different gear ratios, the rotary housing may be joined to the stationary housing by a releasable attachment. This allows portions of the planetary gearbox to be replaced so that, for instance, the last stage may be chosen as either a simple or compound differential planetary stage. To allow for different capacities, a quotient of a sum of all teeth of a sun gear of a stage and of the ring gear with which the planetary gears of the stage mesh to both the number three and the number four yields an integer. In this way, the stage may be provided with either three or four planetary gears. The gearbox may have a ring gear common to a plurality of simple planetary stages. Where the final stage is a simple planetary stage, the carrier may be provided with a flange extending around, and bearing mounted to, the common ring gear. To reduce weight and increase robustness, the planetary gears of a stage are retained on their carrier by a bumper ring provided between carriers. An angle sensor may be provided between the stationary and rotary housings.
