    • The present invention concerns a pilger rolling mill comprising a roll stand (1), a flywheel (10) on a drive shaft which is mounted rotatably about an axis of rotation (18), and a thrust rod (6) having a first end (16) and a second end (17), wherein the first end (16) of the thrust rod (6) is fixed to the flywheel (10) at a radial spacing (7) from the axis of rotation (18) and wherein the second end (17) of the thrust rod (6) is fixed to the roll stand (1) so that in operation of the mill a rotary movement of the flywheel (10) is converted into a translatory movement of the roll stand (1), comprising a drive motor (9) having a motor shaft (8a), wherein the motor shaft (8a) of the drive motor (9) and the drive shaft (8b) are connected together in such a way that a rotary movement of the motor shaft (8a) leads to a rotary movement of the drive shaft (8b) and thus the drive motor (9) drives the flywheel (10). To provide a pilger rolling mill whose drive for the roll stand exhibits no or only very little wear and which in addition permits a precise displacement of the roll stand with a high degree of repetition accuracy, according to the invention it is proposed that that the drive motor (9) is a torque motor.

    • A microengine uses two synchronized linear actuators as a power source and converts oscillatory motion from the actuators into rotational motion via direct linkage connection to an output gear or wheel. The microengine provides output in the form of a continuously rotating output gear that is capable of delivering drive torque to a micromechanism. The microengine can be operated at varying speeds and its motion can be reversed. Linear actuators are synchronized in order to provide linear oscillatory motion to the linkage means in the X and Y directions according to a desired position, rotational direction and speed of said mechanical output means. The output gear has gear teeth on its outer perimeter for directly contacting a micromechanism requiring mechanical power. The gear is retained by a retaining means which allows said gear to rotate freely. The microengine is microfabricated of polysilicon on one wafer using surface micromachining batch fabrication.
