    • Modified friction pad and friction-pad receptacle assembly for a brake/clutch module permitting greater ease in the friction pad's insertion into and withdrawal from the brake/clutch module. The improved ease is achieved by inverting the pad/receptacle coupling with respect to earlier designs, so that the pad is now held into the receptacle by clips at the distal end of the receptacle rather than the proximal end. That configuration in conjunction with finger-grip depressions near the proximal end of the pad allow the pad to be removed with one hand. This is due in part because of the way the clips of the present invention work so as to prevent the pad from falling out under the force of gravity but nevertheless yield to the slightly greater force applied by the operator desiring to remove the pad. Additionally, the present invention provides protection against wear for the torque-resistor pad guides by interposing the spring steel of the retaining clips between the pad assembly and these guides.

    • A clutch driven plate (10) has a central hub member (11) with radially extending drive formations (19) which engage co-operating drive formations (23) on an outer annular disc member (12) carrying friction lining means (15a, 15b). The disc member has a radially inner peripheral portion (21) which is axially displaced relative to the remainder of the disc member and is connected thereto by an axially cranked portion (22) of the disc member, the cranked portion being provided with apertures/windows (23) which are engaged by the radially extending drive formations (19). Spring means (24, 25) carried by the disc member act to try to maintain the radially inner flange portion (21) in contact with one side of the radially extending drive formations (19) whilst allowing limited tipping of the disc member (12) and hence the friction lining means (15a, 15b) relative to the hub member (11) during use of the driven plate.

    • An improvement in a motor vehicle transmission/casing assembly where an end pressure plate of a clutch plate assembly, is positioned on a surface of an hydraulic piston located in the casing of the transmission/casing assembly. Spaced externally extending splines on the pressure plate are positioned in correspondingly spaced channels in the interior casing wall, for arresting the pressure plate from rotation. A loosely fitted buffer member or liner is positioned in each channel between the periphery of the externally extending splines and the walls of the channel for intercepting contact between the spline of the pressure plate and the wall of the channel. A groove in a circumference of the interior wall of the casing, supports a snap ring which transverses each channel and blocks the buffer member, positioned in the channel, from slipping out of the channel. The contact intercepted by the buffer member is absorbed by the mass of the buffer member and transmitted to the walls of the channel over a substantially large area than that of the contact between the buffer member and the spline, thus preventing damage to the casing wall.
