    • A dual end stop is provided for setting precise open and closed positions for the valve to which the pneumatic actuator is attached. In a preferred embodiment, a stop assembly housing contains two stop adjustment bolts as well as a cam that defines first and second stop surfaces. The stop assembly housing is preferably mounted to the actuator housing outside of the pressurized zone contained by the actuator housing. The stop bolts and associated threaded apertures are designed for minimum overhang of the stop bolts to provide more support. The stop assembly housing not only preferably houses the stop assembly components but also preferably serves as an adaptor plate for the various valves to which the actuator may be mounted.

    • A hydraulic cylinder in which a recess (21) is formed in a piston rod (3) side end surface (20) of a piston (4) so that the recess (21) serves as an axial fitting portion, and an end of the piston rod (3) is fitted into the recess (21) of the piston (4) to ensure the coaxial relationship between the piston rod (3) and the piston (4). Axial threaded holes (24) are formed in an end surface (23) of the piston rod (3) and axial bolt through-holes (25) are formed in the piston (4). The end surface (20) of the piston (4) is disposed in face-to-face contact with the end surface (23) of the piston rod (3), and under the condition bolts (22) are inserted through the bolt through-holes (25) and screwed into the threaded holes (24) to fix the piston (4) to the piston rod (3). Accordingly, the strength of a piston connecting portion can be improved with a simple structure without use of any special high-strength material for the piston rod and without any special heat treatment.

    • In a pneumatic reciprocating actuator of the kind comprising a cylinder which defines a forward-motion chamber and a return-motion chamber, and a piston which is reciprocal in the cylinder and separates the forward-motion chamber and the return-motion chamber, a start stroke forwardly is initiated by admission of gaseous operating fluid from an inlet port in to the foreword-motion chamber with both the forward-motion chamber and the return-motion chamber initially at zero pressure. The operating fluid is also passed from the inlet port into the return-motion chamber during the start stroke until a back pressure of a predetermined magnitude has been produced in the return-motion chamber. Then the return-motion chamber is automatically closed by a pressure control valve unit, whereby the return-motion chamber will form a cushioning chamber for cushioning the movement of the piston in the forward direction, thereby preventing piston over speeding during the start stroke.

    • In the hydraulic tool, a main body section includes a cylinder and a piston. A head section is attached to the cylinder, includes a movable part. The piston is capable of rotating about the cylinder with the movable part. A control section is provided to the cylinder and includes oil paths and a switching valve. A piston valve reciprocally moves to control communication between a first and a second cylinder chambers.
