    • An internal combustion engine (1) has hydraulically driven exhaust valves (13) and fuel pumps (18). The hydraulic drives are controlled by means of a computer (16) and electrically activated positioning means (64) setting a spool in a spool valve. If the electronic control of the engine fails, the spool movement may be controlled by a first piston (41) on which the pressure in a hydraulic hose or conduit (48) acts, said conduit extending to a second piston (44) which may follow a cam (26) on a rotating camshaft. The hydraulically driven cylinder members (13, 14, 18) associated with each of the engine cylinders are mounted at the pertaining cylinder, whereas the camshaft (23) independently of the positioning of the cylinder members is disposed at an appropriate shaft drive, such as the crankshaft (11). The cam shaft has a very short length and small mass and may for instance be disposed at one end of the engine.

    • An inertia governor mechanism applicable to a power unit providing a uniform preselected RPM when the power unit is subjected to variable loads. A pump means provides a constant supply of fluid at a constant pressure to a fluid circuit. A rotary disc valve in the circuit, having one or more axial openings therethrough and driven by the power unit to be regulated, varies the pressure of the fluid in the circuit inversely proportional to the speed, to provide a regulatory fluid pressure which acts on an expandable actuating cylinder to regulate the power unit with a constant speed.

    • A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, in particular an in-line injection pump for Diesel engines, is proposed having an injection quantity governor and an electrically driven feed pump, in which in order to assure an emergency shutoff in the event of a malfunction of the injection quantity governor, a check valve, the forward flow direction of which is toward a suction chamber filled with fuel by the feed pump, is disposed between the pressure-side outlet of the feed pump and the suction chamber. An emergency shutoff device responding to a malfunction switches off the feed pump drive, so that because of the lack of feed pressure the check valve closes and blocks off the suction chamber. The engine comes to a stop, as soon as a partial vacuum is established in the suction chamber, which occurs as soon as several revolutions later.

    • An apparatus for controlling the engine of a hydraulically driven vehicle includes a transmission mechanism having a loose spring and connecting a fuel control lever operationally to a governor control lever, a decelerator cylinder including a spring having a slightly larger spring force than the loose spring and disposed on the opposite side of a piston from a hydraulic fluid chamber and a piston rod connected to the transmission mechanism by a yoke having a slot, an electromagnetic valve for supplying a hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic pump driven by the engine to the hydraulic fluid chamber in the decelerator cylinder or interrupting its supply, and an electric circuit for opening or closing the electromagnetic valve. As long as no hydraulic pressure acts on the piston, the spring in the decelerator cylinder maintains the governor control lever in its deceleration position even if the fuel control lever is turned to its full engine speed position, while the operation of the fuel control lever is transmitted directly to the governor control lever if a hydraulic pressure acts on the piston.

    • A regulator shaft, rotary centrifugal weights, and a governor member which is slidable on the regulator shaft, are arranged in a pressurized, fuel-filled inner chamber of a fuel injection apparatus. The centrifugal weights engage regulator springs via the governor member and a control sleeve. The governor member is closed adjacent the free end of the regulator shaft except for a throttle opening for communication with the inner chamber. The governor member is provided with a work chamber, one extremity of which is limited by the regulator shaft. A conduit leading to a fuel tank communicates with the work chamber. A magnetic valve connected to an electronic control device for control of the fuel flow is provided in the conduit. Opening the magnetic valve causes a pressure drop in the work chamber which in turn causes the governor member to press against the centrifugal weights, thus enhancing the fuel injection quantity so as to reduce deviations from those desired and pre-set.
