    • The present invention relates to a method and related devices for carrying out TBM excavation and expansion blasting, which uses a blast protector and a cart to expand a pilot tunnel by blasting after the pilot tunnel has been formed; and which specifically includes: a step of forming a pilot tunnel; a step of forming a horizontal or vertical blast hole; a step of installing a blast protector within the pilot tunnel; a step of blasting the upper and lower halves of the pilot tunnel to expand the upper and lower halves; and a step of removing the debris formed during the blasting of the upper and lower halves, by dumping the debris into a cart. Accordingly, the rail and cable are protected from the debris formed during the blasting, and working efficiency is improved.

    • A hard rock drill barrel has a barrel portion with a downhole hammer drill disposed therein at the barrel's periphery. A pilot portion, in substantial axial alignment with the barrel but having a smaller diameter, extends distally from the barrel for inserting into a pilot shaft of slightly larger diameter than the pilot portion. In operation, the hammer drill excavates a collar around the pilot shaft when the drill barrel is rotated and supplied with pressurized air, thereby excavating a relative large diameter shaft. The drill barrel is hollow and open at its proximal end to receive and collect cuttings flushed into the shaft above the drill barrel. The piloted drill barrel is adjustable to excavate variable diameter shaft portions, enabling the placement of casing within a larger diameter shaft portion. After adjustment of the drill barrel, smaller-diameter shaft excavation proceeds beyond the casing.

    • An object of this invention is to improve precision in the operation, operating efficiency, and reliability of an excavator. A soil condition at a place where an excavator (1) is advanced is inputted, and a reference number of revolutions of a cutter (9) and a reference advancing speed of the excavator (1) are set in correspondence with the inputted soil condition. Meanwhile, a load on each actuator (17, 18) is detected. The actuator (18) for rotating the cutter is controlled so as to allow the set reference number of revolutions to be obtained for the cutter (9). In a case where the load on each of the actuators (17, 18) is within a predetermined range, the actuator (17) for advancing is controlled so as to allow the set reference advancing speed to be obtained for the excavator (1). However, in a case where it is detected that the load on either of the actuators (17, 18) is outside the predetermined range, the actuator (17) for advancing is controlled in such a manner as to decrease or increase the advancing speed more than the reference advancing speed.

    • A mobile mining machine for cutting a tunnel in rock has a wheel-like cutterhead assembly supported by a pitch boom assembly that causes movement of the cutterhead assembly in the vertical plane. A swing boom assembly supports the pitch boom assembly and is supported by the base frame of the mobile mining machine. The swing boom assembly causes movement of the cutterhead assembly and the pitch boom assembly in the horizontal plane. During mining, a fixed front support and a fixed rear support anchor the mobile mining machine in the tunnel with front and rear crawlers raised from the tunnel floor. During re-gripping, the front and rear crawlers are lowered to support the mobile mining machine and the fixed front support and fixed rear support remain in contact with the tunnel floor. During tramming, the front and rear supports are raised for transportation of the mobile mining machine on the crawler. A movable muck apron assembly having pivoting apron wings and an integral muck hopper is located on the front portion of the mobile mining machine.
