    • A method of the invention relates to treating a textile base material for thermobonding interlining, the material being constituted by a woven fabric or a weft knit that includes texturized synthetic threads, in particular air jet texturized threads, which form loops on a top face that is to receive spots of glue, and on an opposite, bottom face. The method consists in subjecting said textile base material, prior to applying spots of glue thereto, to emerizing or equivalent pre-treatment on its bottom face and to pre-treatment on its top face for reducing the height of the loops, e.g. singeing or heat treatment by radiation or by contact. Preferably, the textile base material is initially subjected to emerizing or equivalent pre-treatment on its bottom face, and subsequently to singeing pre-treatment on its top face.

    • A machine for flame processing textile fabric webs (27), especially a singeing machine, is equipped with a burner unit (35) which comprises a combustion chamber terminating in a singeing slit, connected to a gas mixing chamber by a mixture feed slot (7).To save energy, the width of the working flame should be adjustable continuously and with low operating cost, whereby in particular provision should be made for automatically adjusting the flame width to the width of the fabric web (27) being processed. For this purpose, the burner unit (35) is provided with one or two flexible sealing strips (13) for the mixture feed slot, said strips being insertable from one or both ends of the burner unit, each of said strips further having its outer end wound on a winding body (33), rotatable for adjusting the inner ends of sealing strips (13).

    • Tubular textile fabric passes through a singeing apparatus preferably vertically upwardly. A guide path including a circular spreader guides the tubular fabric past gas operated singeing nozzles which are position adjustable in parallel to the longitudinal travel direction and radially thereto. The circular spreader forms a conical zone in the tubular fabric and the singeing nozzles are located around the conical zone so that an axial position adjustment of the nozzles changes the spacing between the nozzles and the fabric and a radial adjustment of the nozzles centers the nozzles relative to the fabric. The conical zone may taper in a direction opposite to the travel direction or in the travel direction of the fabric. The taper and its direction is determined by the diameter and the location of fabric guide rings forming part of the spreader. Cooling devices are located downstream of the singeing nozzles as viewed in the travel direction of the fabric.
