Contact pressure between each spinning element and the indirect driving device is adjusted as a function of the momentary difference between the rotational speed of the spinning element and of its driving device in stationary operation while rotational speeds only nominally change, so that the slippage between indirect driving device and spinning element remains constant in time.

The contact pressure device (13, 14, 15) can be switched over in order to press the second belt (12) against the whorls (11) with a substantially greater force. Upon shutoff of the spinning machine, the contact pressure device (13, 14, 15) is switched over so that the decelerating second belt (12) exerts a substantially greater friction force on whorls (11) and rapidly brakes the thread guide members (7) concomitantly.

The spinning or twisting machine has a different total power need based on different total numbers of working units and/or use of working units with different individual power needs. Independently of the total power need of the spinning or twisting machine, all the motors have the same dimensions. The number of motors are selected so that the sum of the nominal power output of the motors at least approximately corresponds to the total power need of the spinning or twisting machine. Each of the motors are associated with a number of the working units such that the sum of the individual power need of the working units corresponds at least approximately to the nominal power of the motor.

In further embodiments of the invention, the tangential belts of neighboring sections are guided over common guide roller elements, whose guide rollers are non-rotatably connected to each other.

    • A bearing disk construction is disclosed for an open end spinning rotor at a spinning unit of the type having a rotor mounted on a rotor shaft, a twin disk bearing arrangement for rotatably supporting the rotor shaft and a tangential belt drivingly engaging the rotor shaft of the radial side thereof opposite the twin disk arrangement. The bearing disks are formed with a metallic base body and a plastic fitting around the circumference thereof which directly supportingly engages the rotor shaft. To minimize heating of the system during high speed operation, the plastic fittings are provided with a circumferential ring groove which is geometrically configured to optimize bearing support and heat dissipation. The plastic fitting is anchored in a groove at the circumference of the base body by moulding the plastic at the base body.
