    • The coke forms are produced in four stages, each constituted by a respective oven chamber, and in which the briquets are, respectively, preheated, dehydrated or dried, carbonized and cooled. Hot gas circuits are provided, in which the hot gas is composed substantially of burnt lean gas of the carbonization, and, for each stage, the hot gases are recirculated in a separate respective circuit. In the preheating, dehydrating and carbonization stages, the hot gases are heated and produced, or supplemented, in a respective separate combustion chamber with the recirculating hot gas in the carbonization stage being supplemented with cooled lean gas from this stage. The recirculating hot gases are dedusted separately in a dust settling chamber in which their flow velocity is reduced to approximately 0.2 to 2.0 m/sec, with the dust being collected. Steam may be added to the recirculating hot gas of the preheating stage, drying stage, or both, and the pressure in the hot gas circuits is maintained at a level slightly higher than atmospheric pressure. The oven chambers are arranged as a vertical oven block plant and the oven chambers are interconnected with each other by transition zones which are conically narrowed to approximately one half of the cross section of the chamber and then widened up to the full cross section. The hot gas inlets are provided in the transition zones at the lower ends of the oven chambers, and the hot gas outlets are provided in the transition zones at the upper ends of the chambers. The dust settling chambers are provided immediately adjacent the hot gas outlets, and the carbonization chamber is surrounded by its combustion chamber to form an operating unit.

    • Regenerative heating of a coke oven battery includes the combustion of lean gas and air in heating chambers disposed between the coking chambers or, alternatively, if desired, the combustion of rich gas and air in the heating chambers. Each heating chamber includes a plurality of header walls forming upgoing and downgoing heating flues. Each header wall includes at least one internal duct in open communication with a plurality of vertically-spaced exit ports at the common side of a header wall. The internal ducts receive either preheated air or preheated lean gas for combustion in a heating flue. The cross-sectional size of the exit ports to discharge air in a given heating flue increases upwardly from port to port along the header wall whereby the amount of air supplied at the sole and lower part of the heating flue is insufficient for complete combustion of the amount of lean gas supplied thereto. The cross-sectional sizes of the plurality of exit ports for lean gas in the same heating flue decrease upwardly from port-to-port along the header wall such that the amounts of air and lean gas supplied to the heating flue are sufficient for complete combustion of the smoke gas discharged from the heating flue. In one embodiment, each header wall includes two internal ducts with the discharge ports thereof in open communication with different heating flues. In a further embodiment, each header wall includes a single internal duct having exit ports at opposite sides. Combustion takes place in all the heating flues which are upgoing and located at one side of the oven chamber. A top duct interconnects all the upgoing flues with downgoing heating flues located at the other side of the oven chamber during a regenerative half-cycle.

    • A heating system for regenerative coke oven batteries having a plurality of coke oven chambers separated by heating walls and a plurality of regenerators extending the length of the coke oven for preheating air and cooling hot waste gases comprises a plurality of spaced heating ducts extending upwardly in the heating walls which are grouped into two adjacent pairs of heating ducts. The ducts in each group of four heating ducts are separated by first and second binder walls with the first binder walls carrying one binder duct for supplying air and discharging hot waste to and from adjacent heat ducts in one of the pairs in the group. The second wall is either provided with no heating ducts or a pair of heating ducts. A horizontal channel connects the tops of all four heating ducts in each group and the lower end of each heating duct is provided with a rich gas supply nozzle.
