摘要： A process for producing an indole which comprises reacting an aniline and a diol in the presence of a catalyst to produce a reaction mixture containing the indole, unreacted aniline and by-products, condensing the reaction mixture to obtain a liquid reaction product, recovering the unreacted aniline from the liquid reaction product, reducing the contents of specified by-products in the recovered aniline below specified levels and reutilizing the resulting recovered aniline. To reduce the contents of the specified by-products in the recovered aniline below specified levels, it is preferred to subject the liquid reaction product or an aniline fraction separated therefrom to a heat-treatment and then to distillation. In the above manner, the recovered aniline can be reutilized in the reaction without causing the activity of the catalyst to deteriorate.

摘要： A method of purifying tertiary amines by removing sec. and prim. amines and/or their hydrochlorides produced in the manufacture of the tertiary amines. The impurities are removed by dissolving the impure tertiary amines in an organic solvent and the resulting solution is passed over absorbents such as aluminum oxides having a specific surface area of about 100 to 400 square meters per gram. The sec. and prim. amines and/or their hydrochlorides are retained on the adsorbents and pure tertiary amines are useful in the solvents or can be separated therefrom. The adsorbents are regenerated by passing polar solvents thereover to remove the sec. and prim. amines and/or their hydrochlorides.

摘要： An arylamine such as aniline is condensed with formaldehyde in the presence of aqueous hydrochloric acid to form a mass containing the hydrogen chloride salt of a polyarylpolyamine. The mass is contacted with additional aniline thereby forming an organic phase and an aqueous phase, the 4,4'-polyarylpolyamine overwhelmingly being liberated from its salt form in the aqueous phase and being transferred to the organic phase. High recoveries of the 4,4'-diamino polycondensate are achieved.
