    • An accumulator apparatus and method are provided for accumulating sheet articles. The accumulator apparatus includes an upper belt system and lower belt system operative for advancing sheet articles in seriatim manner therebetween. Guide rollers are provided at the entrance of the sheet articles between the upper and lower belt systems for guiding the sheet articles therebetween without pinching. Nip rollers are provided downstream from the entry guide rollers for pulling sheet articles into the accumulator apparatus between the guide rollers and the nip rollers. A ramp system operative for deflecting advancing sheet articles is provided downstream from the nip rollers. Sheet articles deflected by the ramp assembly can then be accumulated in an accumulation location where the lower belt system is maintained in a spaced-apart position below the accumulation location such that the lower belt system cannot contact or mark sheet articles accumulated therein. Stop rollers are provided for selectively stopping further advancement of accumulated sheet articles from the accumulation location and for pulling the accumulated sheet articles from the accumulation location to advance the sheet articles from the accumulator apparatus. A biasing element is provided and is affixed to the downstream end of the ramp. The function of the biasing element is to urge all accumulating sheet articles from behind towards and into the nip formed by the upper and lower stop rollers. The biasing element is provided to reduce or eliminate sheet misregistration or shingling back.

    • A method and device for output of single sheets from a printer employs a driven first roller pair having a conveying nip in which a respective single sheet is transported and deflected from an approximately vertically proceeding conveying path into an approximately horizontal conveying path. A separation element that suppresses a continued conveying of the respective single sheet on a circumferential surface of a lower roller of the roller pair is arranged in a proximity of the circumferential surface of the lower roller. An edge sensor is arranged preceding the roller as viewed in a conveying direction for determining whether single sheets have pushed on top of one another. A discharge brush electrically discharges one side of the single sheet arranged in the conveying path following the roller pair. A deflection device deflects the single sheet emerging from the conveying nip into a substantially horizontal attitude shortly before the conveying nip as viewed in a direction of the conveying path. The discharge brush is mounted to the end of the deflection device.

    • An output bin that uses gravity to urge the sheets into alignment along two edges and thereby help form a fully aligned stack. In one embodiment, the bin includes a first panel facing each sheet as the sheet is output from the printing device, the first panel having a top, a bottom and a side; a second panel disposed along the bottom of the first panel, the second panel tipped relative to a leading edge that leads each sheet out of the printing device; and a third panel disposed along the side of the first panel. Each sheet dispensed into the output bin slides over the first panel until a leading edge of the sheet contacts an upper portion of the second tipped panel. The sheet then tips in the direction of the third panel and rests with the leading edge supported by the second panel and a side edge supported by the third panel.

    • A post-processing apparatus is configured to substantially support media sheets along their edges by causing the media sheets to substantially bend along their transversely extending axes. Conventional types of media sheets are typically unable to be supported at their edges because they often tend to bend along axially extending axes. According to a sheet handling method, a transversely extending bend is created in the media sheets. In this respect, the media sheets may be supported along their edges without substantially bending along their axially extending axes. In addition, by substantially removing the transversely extending bend in the media sheets, the media sheets are caused to drop substantially straight between a pair of support members. Thus, it is unnecessary to move the support members apart from one another to cause the media sheets to drop between the support members.
