    • A subject part-aligning apparatus has a simple structure and causes less damage to chip parts, and operates well even if a chip discharge passage thereof is clogged or overflows with the chip parts. The apparatus has a part-holding chamber for accommodating a number of chip parts. An arc-shaped chute groove is formed in the inner surface of the bottom of the part-holding chamber to orient the chip parts in a given direction and to slidably guide the chips. A gate port is formed at the lower end of the chute groove to permit the chip parts sliding downward in a given orientation along the chute groove to pass in series (e.g., one by one). The discharge passage is formed to be tangential to the chute groove to align the passed chip parts in a line and to discharge the chip parts. A rotary impeller having blades is mounted in the part-holding chamber. The blades urge any chip part halted in an abnormal orientation in the gate port toward a direction opposite to the direction in which the chips are discharged.

    • The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for combining randomly oriented containers on a conveyor into single file. The apparatus includes a pressureless combining conveyor having at least two or more conveyor sections adjacent to one another, and angled about the axis of a guide rail. The substantially linear guide rail extends at an angle across the combining conveyor. The guide rail is constructed such that the lower part of a container which starts to fall toward the guide rail contacts the guide rail first, then tilts toward the guide rail, touching the guide rail at a height of the container near the center of gravity of the container, and then returning to its stable position. The container's center of gravity always remains within its stability region. The apparatus includes an input conveyor to supply a plurality of containers having no specific orientation, and an input guide rail section to guide moving containers to one side of the input conveyor. An output conveyor is aligned adjacent to the combining conveyor section for outputting a single-file line of containers and an ejector may be positioned along the output conveyor section to eject fallen containers on the output conveyor.

    • The invention is an automatic, unmanned, powered, variable speed finger joint machine infeed apparatus which receives a random and haphazard delivery of blocks from a controllable supply conveyor. An intermittently operable infeed conveyor moves blocks from the supply conveyor to an unscrambler, through which a slat chain travels and picks up blocks. The slat chain is composed of two chain loops, connected at regular, equal intervals by slats. The unscrambler partially singularizes and orientates blocks transversely to the direction of travel and the slat chain pushes blocks over an even ending conveyor which aligns them to the inside of one of the chains. The slat chain pushes the even ended blocks under a block hold down, which allows excess blocks to drop out of the system, and then over a moisture detecting system. Blocks containing unacceptable moisture fall through a gap in the working table while blocks with acceptable moisture are pushed by the slats over a door covering the gap and onto an outfeed table. The slats are synchronized to the lugs on the finger joint machine's lug chain and deposit correctly aligned and orientated blocks precisely on the lug chain. The slat chain then rotates upward and loops back over the working table and then down, under the infeed conveyor to re-emerge at the unscrambler.
