    • A vertically placed, lift generating wing is affixed adjacent to, and forward of the steering head of a bicycle, or pedal cycle. This results in a conversion into a wind powered, sail propelled, vehicle for use as recreational enjoyment, as well as a practical mode of transportation. The resulting sail bike utilizes a mast attachment bracket (8) to support a lift generating wing which is generally comprised of; sail (1), sail luff pocket (2), mast (3), boom (5), sail trim rigging (10), battens (14) and other rigging and fasteners. The sail bike can properly perform all of the functions characteristic of a true sailing vehicle, including; sailing throughout course headings of 270 degrees relative to the wind's direction, beating, reaching, and running, and it will also permit safe and immediate execution of all maneuvers common to sailing vessels, including tacking, jibing and continuous sail trimming. The advantage of the sail bike is in the simplicity of the design, the ease of set up, and in its highly efficient operation as a sailing vehicle.

    • A therapeutic system particularly suited for strengthening the hip extensor muscles of a user is described. The vehicle combines the therapeutic benefits of conditioning the hip extensor muscles with the enjoyable activity of propelling oneself on a wheeled vehicle. A frame is provided following the general pattern of a tricycle with one steerable wheel and a pair of driving wheels. A seat, a back rest, and at least one strap for holding the user in position on the seat and the back rest are also provided. These user support structures securely hold the user in the proper operating position, even when the user has less than normal muscular control and strength, such as with children with cerebral palsy. Structures are included for receiving at least a portion of the user's leg between the user's knee and the user's hip and for transmitting the extension motion of the user's hips into the rotational movement of the pair of driving wheels. Substantially only the hip extensor group of muscles of the user are used to propel the vehicle.

    • A velocipede comprising a rigid frame with front and rear wheels and a crank operably connected to the rear wheels. A first member has its front end portion pivotably connected to the frame front end such that the first member is movable between upper and lower positions above and below a horizontal line passing through the pivot. A second member has a first end pivotably connected to the first member rear end portion and a second end pivotably connected to the crank such that reciprocating movement of the first member rear end portion causes the second member to rotate the crank. A third member includes a pivot disposed at its intermediate portion and has its front and rear ends movable between upper and lower positions. A pair of pedals are pivotably secured to the third member front end and movable therewith between the upper and lower positions. A fourth member has one end pivotably connected to the first member rear end portion and a second end pivotably connected to the third member rear end such that when the first member is in the lower position, the pedals are at their upper position and when the first member is in the upper position, the pedals are in their lower position. A seat is disposed intermediate the first member front and rear ends and substantially directly above the third member pivot such that when the pedals are at their upper position, the pedals are slightly forward of the seat.

    • A bicycle having a fluid powered motor. A primary source of fluid for motor operation provided by a pair of hydraulic cylinders with pistons therein powered by the feet of the rider. A secondary or auxiliary source of fluid under pressure for motor operation residing in a pair of seat actuated fluid pumps. The bicycle seat is mounted to permit the weight of the rider to be yieldably supported with fluid being exhausted from said pumps upon bicycle seat movement while the rider is negotiating irregular ground surfaces. An additional source of fluid pressure may be provided by still another cylinder operatively coupled to the front fork of the bicycle.
