When the cover of the sun roof is opened the upper wall of the bulb springs upwardly above the level of the roof in which the sun roof is installed, but when the cover is closed, the upper wall of the bulk is compressed against the base above the rigid bead to seal the sun roof against leakage.

    • Vehicle roof, particularly for passenger vehicles, connected to whose roof there are side panels forming roof struts. The connection areas between the roof panel and side panels are downwardly offset and are respectively covered by a molded strip. The roof has a roof opening which extends approximately up to the connecting areas. A tiltable cover which can be moved rearwardly is provided for selectively closing and at least partially uncovering of the roof opening. The outer edge of the cover in its closed position is pressed against a cover gasket from above. The gasket at the side of the roof opening, at least supplements the respective molding strip by replacing the molding strips in the area of the roof opening, or by extending along the side of the molding strip facing the roof opening, or by forming a portion of the molding strip itself.

    • In a sliding roof for automobiles, a sliding lid is secured against tearing out from the roof opening due to the high uplift forces acting on it at extremely high speeds of travel of the order of 300 km/h (186 m.p.h.), by a sealing profile strip, engaging beneath an edge flange of an automobile roof and secured against stripping off from the sliding lid by means of a holding frame. The sealing strip has two grooves, one engaging a downwardly-extending peripheral flange of the lid and the other engaging holding elements which extend substantially horizontally, spaced from, beneath and beyond the downwardly-extending flange. In addition, support levers can be mounted height-adjustably on the holding frame at the front on either side, which levers also engage beneath the fixed automobile roof and bear, with their outer ends, on guide tracks fixed to the automobile roof, which extend along the entire sliding travel of the sliding lid and are fitted at an appropriate slope to follow the movement direction of the lid.

    • A detachable-type vehicle sun shade apparatus is disclosed for use in vehicles having glass sun roofs installed between a center roof material and an exterior panel, both of which define an opening. The opening has a flange mounted trim strip therearound and a holder is mounted along a first edge of the opening. A sun shade has a first edge receivable between the holder and the trim strip. A stopper is rotatably mounted on the sun shade adjacent the second edge of the sun shade, with the stopper including edge engaging structure for engaging the trim strip along a second edge of the opening which is adjacent the second edge of the sun shade. A knob is provided for rotating the stopper and bringing the edge engaging structure into engagement with the trim strip along the second edge of the opening. The second edge of the sun shade is pressed against the trim strip along the second edge of the opening when the stopper is rotated to a position where the edge engaging structure engages the trim strip along the second edge of the opening.

    • Hollow chamber seal for sealing an edge gap between an edge of a fixed roof section and a movable cover of a vehicle roof in which both a deformation of the hollow chamber and an additional deformation of the seal are possible to compensate for the gap tolerances. In accordance with preferred embodiments, to produce the additional deformation, at least one hollow chamber part is connected to a sealing body for pivotal movement around a bending axis that extends substantially parallel to the major surfaces of the cover in a direction parallel to the edge of the cover. Using such a seal, in accordance with process aspects of the invention, surface tolerances of a movable cover of an automobile roof can be compensated for by inserting the cover with the attached hollow chamber seal into a template, bringing the hollow chamber part into a pivoted position that corresponds to predetermined external measurements of a roof unit including the cover and the hollow chamber seal, and by attaching the hollow chamber part to the sealing body in this pivoted position. In accordance with this process, a roof unit is produced which will appropriately fit in sealed relation to an edge of a fixed roof section defining a roof opening to be closed by the cover despite tolerance variations in, e.g., the dimensions of the cover.

To prevent a gap from remaining in the closed position between the peripheral edges of the lid liner and fixed liner opening, which would make possible penetration of noise into the vehicle interior, it is provided that the peripheral edge of the lid liner possess a downwardly facing bearing surface, opposite which there is a correspondingly upwardly facing counter-surface at the peripheral edge of the fixed liner opening, in such a manner that the bearing surface and the counter-surface bear against each other without a gap in the closed position. As soon as a slight upward movement occurs, the bearing surface lifts off the counter-surface to form a ventilating gap.
