摘要： An adjustable ball-type hitch assembly, and a method for using it. The hitch assembly is connected to a hitch receiver of a towing vehicle on one end, and to a vehicle to be towed having a ball receiver, on the other end. In a preferred embodiment, the adjustable hitch assembly may include a base attachable to the receiver, and a sliding element such as a tongue supporting the ball and pivotally attached to the base. The sliding element may include a slot or groove enabling the sliding element to move along its longitudinal axis relative to the base, and to also rotate about a vertical axis perpendicular to a horizontal plane containing at least a portion of the sliding element, enabling the ball to be moved in various directions in a substantially horizontal plane to facilitate connection of the ball to the towed vehicle. Preferably the hitch includes means for locking and unlocking angular and linear movement of the sliding element and ball, such as a cam lock, which is preferably and easily manipulable by one hand.

The power actuator can be operable to move the hitch assembly between a retracted position and an extended position. A controller can be operable to control activation of the power actuator. An interlock can be provided requiring a transmission of the vehicle to be in a parked position before the controller can be operable to move the hitch assembly between the retracted position and the extended position. A locking member can be operable by the controller to move between a locked position and a released position with respect to the hitch assembly. The locking member can be operable to be in a locked position, when the hitch assembly is in at least one of the extended position and the retracted position, and in a released position, when the hitch assembly is in transition between the extended position and the retracted position.

The hitch is capable of being disengaged from a retracted locked position and of being moved forward relative to the trailer as well as in a lateral direction to permit ready coupling of the trailer and towing vehicle. After coupling is completed, the towing vehicle exerts rearward force against the hitch, causing the hitch to abut and be centered by a centering frame. An automatic latching mechanism completes the coupling by locking the hitch in retracted position. A back-up pin type lock precludes accidental uncoupling.

摘要： An improved trailer hitch for automatically aligning and coupling a trailer to a towing vehicle. A movable coupler has a forward portion comprising a conventional socket and latching device for attachment to a ball on the towing vehicle and a rearward portion comprising vertically oriented rearwardly converging side walls. The rearward portion is configured to mate with an opening in the trailer front end so that the side walls abut vertically oriented forwardly diverging guide plates in the trailer front end. The side walls have a vertical thickness along a portion of their length substantially less than the vertical thickness of the guide plates so that the coupler may be raised vertically while in the opening to facilitate attachment of the socket on the coupler to the ball on the towing vehicle. Means are provided for automatically locking the coupler to the trailer when the side walls of the coupler are in abutment with the guide plates in the trailer front end.

摘要： A drawbar assembly for transporting three point hitch implements in an elevated or lowered condition by a single point connector towing vehicle. The assembly is wheel supported and mountable between the connector of a towing vehicle and the three point connectors of a three point hitch trailing unit such as a plow or other farm implement. The three point connectors are movably mounted relative to a central supporting framework. A jack assembly and appropriate linkage interconnect the three point connectors with the framework to enable movement of the three point connectors and attached implement between an elevated carrying position and a lowered operating position. The jack assembly is operated through provision of conventional accessory drive units provided on the towing vehicle. A tongue load relieving mechanism is also provided, operatively connecting the implement and tractor to reduce the load normally transferred to the hitch members through the tongue of the drawbar assembly. Shock loads, received when the implement is in the elevated condition, are dampened through the stabilizer assembly. The drawbar assembly pivots about the axis of a pin near the tractor drawbar to avoid binding the tractor and drawbar hitch members together.
