    • A mechanical apparatus for modifying an individual sheet feed offset duplicator to print impressions on continuous form pre-punched and perforated paper. A first tractor module is attached to the input of the duplicator for delivering the paper into the duplicator and an indexing mechanism is provided in the first tractor module for providing precise indexing to the paper as it is delivered into the duplicator. A device for adjusting the registration of the impression on the paper is provided in the first tractor module adjustment while the machine is operating. A rear tractor module is also connected at the output of the duplicator and engages the continuous form paper to maintain a predetermined amount of tautness on the paper by providing supplementary pulling on the paper while the paper is pulled through the duplicator. The present invention can also be used to collate multiple streams of continuous form paper into a single output stream as part of the printing process. Adhesive is then applied to the lateral edges of the output stream to create multi-part forms.

    • The present invention provides a printing drum for a rotary stencil printing device, comprising: a clamp for clamping a leading edge of a stencil master plate sheet along a line extending axially on an outer circumferential surface of the printing drum; and cutting device mounted on the printing drum for cutting the stencil master plate sheet to define a trailing edge of the stencil master plate sheet mounted on the printing drum. By thus providing the cutting device on the printing drum, the stencil master plate can be accurately cut because the cut length of the stencil master plate can be determined in relation with the circumferential length on the printing drum, and the cut edge of the stencil master plate can be made always exactly parallel to the axial line of the printing drum because there is no relative movement in the feeding direction between the stencil master plate sheet and the cutting device.

    • A system is provided for intermittently processing successive definite lengths of flexible sheet material in continuous web form, e.g., tractor-fed computer printout paper, with nearly tensionless transport of the web through web feeding operations, cyclical web processing and driving operations, and web delivery operations, that are not speed-interdependent. For each processing cycle, with the web extended without slack through an upstream lead to a processing station where a certain length of the web is positioned to be next processed, an excess length of loose web is fed into that lead, typically forming a loop in it; then the certain web length is processed and driven forward a distance shorter than the length of loose web; and then web is retracted from the upstream lead to remove the residual loose web and leave a next certain web length in position to be processed. The processed web is delivered and may be folded into a pack as a downstream lead of it is made slack by web driven from the processing station. The system enables increased speeds of offset printing of paper such as continuous computer printout forms.

    • A printing press of a type that will operate with a continuous web has a device for taking up slack between the printing of each format. An electrically actuated sprocket drive is located at the opposite region for pulling the web forward from a blanket cylinder and press cylinder. A tube locates below the web in the input region. The tube has apertures and is connected to a continuous source of vacuum. The vacuum applies a force to cause the web to adhere to the tube. A web tightener will move the tube when pressure between the press and blanket cylinders releases. As the tube reaches the end of the web tightening position, the web tightener will expose a portion of the apertures to the atmosphere, bleeding off the vacuum.
