    • A method and apparatus for lining the interior of a container with plastic sheet material. An open topped container is elevated upon a support through a passage in a lower die member into contact with the under surface of a sheet of heated thermoplastic material overlying the upper end of the passage. A plug assist member is then employed to deform the sheet into conformation with the interior of the container. Upon withdrawal of the plug assist member, an upper die member is lowered into shearing relationship with the lower die member to shear the sheet around the upper periphery of the container. The support, with the lined container in place, is then further elevated to raise the lined container upwardly through the opening thus sheared in the sheet and through a passage extending vertically through the upper die member. The plastic lined container is discharged from the apparatus by pushing it transversely across the flat upper surface of the upper die member.

    • Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) pipes, which may have a supporting metal mandrel placed therein, are flanged. To this end, use is made of a first implement which is a rigid annular plate having a frustoconical element and a bevelled cylindrical plug slightly smaller in diameter than the PTFE-pipe centrally mounted thereon. The first implement is heated once to 180.degree.-210.degree. C and forced into contact with the PTFE-pipe so that the plug opens thereinto. The PTFE-pipe and the first implement projecting thereinto are caused to rotate for 0.5-3 minutes at a speed of 5-10 rpm and under a contact pressure of 5-20 kg/cm.sup.2 of pipe surface area to be flanged whereby the free end of the PTFE-pipe is flared. The first implement is removed and replaced by a second implement which is a rigid annular plate having a bevelled cylindrical plug substantially equal in diameter with the PTFE-pipe centrally mounted thereon. The second implement is heated once to 180.degree.-210.degree. C and forced into contact with the PTFE-pipe. The PTFE-pipe and the second implement projecting thereinto are caused to rotate for 1-3 minutes at a speed of 5-15 rpm under a contact pressure of 5-20 kg/cm.sup.2 of pipe surface area to be flanged, and the flanged end of the PTFE-pipe is chilled by means of a coolant.

    • A pedestal liner for a pedestal truck of a railway vehicle and method of making same are provided wherein such pedestal liner is of roughly U-shaped configuration having a bight and a pair of parallel legs and comprising a continuous uninterrupted backing material defining the bight and parallel legs, a first antifriction material for the bight fixed against the backing material and adapted to engage a vertically disposed planar guide surface of an associated journal box, a second antifriction material for the parallel legs fixed against the backing material and adapted to engage vertically disposed parallel side surfaces of the journal box which are disposed on opposite sides of the guide surface with the backing material providing optimum structural support for the antifriction materials and the first and second antifriction materials having different wear characteristics determined by the different wear rates to which they are subjected.
