摘要： A method of manufacturing a sheet-molded compound (SMC) article having local reinforcement includes the steps of providing a mold for forming the SMC article, filling a portion of the mold with a chopped fiber compound and placing at least one filament-wound reinforcing element in a position in the mold where structural reinforcement of the SMC article is needed. The reinforcing element is formed by winding a resin-coated filament on a mandrel to form coils along a length of the mandrel, where each coil is wound at a predetermined angle relative to an axis of the mandrel. Heat and pressure are applied to the mold to cause the chopped fiber compound to melt such that the melted chopped fiber compound bonds with the reinforcing elements to form the SMC article with local reinforcement. The SMC article with local reinforcement is then removed from the mold.

摘要： The composite molding apparatus includes a rigid base member and a complementary semi-rigid mold member or nullblack bagnull caul plate having a sieve member formed therein. The sieve member layer of the semi-rigid mold member engages pins which extend from the sandwich core to limit penetration into the semi-rigid mold member to a predetermined depth. The semi-rigid mold member is supported relative to the rigid mold member by the pins to provide uniform pressure transfer to the composite article during a high pressure co-cure molding process without crushing the sandwich core.

The combination of stiffness and mechanical bond provides this effect. The combination may also include a polypropylene non-woven material (18) combined with a polyethylene film (20) to form a laminate top (12) and bottom layer (16). The chopped fiber roving (22) is randomly disposed between the laminate (21) and a urethane matrix (44) used to form a core (14) of the headliner (10) to provide the shape stability to the headliner (1).
