    • A device for aiding in the preparation of very thin slices of foam sheet material that is to be examined under a microscope. The device has a clamp arrangement for holding a sample of foam sheet material. A screw feed arrangement permits the foam sheet material to be advanced past a planar surface where a very thin slice of foam material can be removed. A clamping arrangement keeps the foam sheet material in linear alignment at the location where the sample is severed. A detent arrangement permits a metered amount of foam sheet material to be advanced past the planar cutting surface by the screw feed arrangement.The method of preparing a foam sample by first severing the foam material while it is held by the apparatus, thus establishing a planar cut, then positioning the material for a second cut which is then made parallel to the first cut.

    • A hand slicer for prepared meat such as roasts, hams, and other boneless meats. The meat is positioned in a rack that has a configuration closely approximating that of the prepared meat to prevent back and forth movement as well as eliminating the use of a hand to hold the meat. The meat is advanced by a screw mechanism to a stop plate which in turn is a predetermined cutting position to control the portions of the cut. The stop also serves as a plate for receiving the cut slices and for dispensing the cut portion to another plate. The rack has an elongated slot positioned over a tray for the saving of the meat juices. A warming oven encloses the entire slicer to maintain the meat at a predetermined temperature.

    • An automatic carousel-type meat cutting machine in which slabs of meat are placed between pairs of rotating jaws that move around a center vertical axis. One jaw in each pair of jaws is spring-biased for gripping the meat, but the weight of the meat will cause it to move downwardly by gravity and rest on a meat-supporting horizontal and stationary platform. A section of the platform is made vertically adjustable with respect to the stationary part and may be adjusted to determine the thickness of the slices of meat cut from the slabs of meat. The stationary and adjustable sections form a complete circle and they support the slabs of meat which are moved by the pairs of meat guiding pairs of jaws. A horizontal portion of an endless band saw lies flush with the plane of the horizontal fixed platform section and the adjustable platform section is positioned therebelow to determine the thickness of the slice. The rotating carousel moves the pairs of jaws with their meat slabs over the adjustable platform section and past the band saw which severs a slice of meat from each slab just prior to the slab being moved onto the fixed platform section.
