    • A fence system for use on a power saw including an elongated fence configured to be secured on a top surface of a power saw at positions relative to a blade. The elongated fence has at least one flat side wall portion against which an object can be positioned and moved along while the object is moved through a cutting zone. A support unit is configured to ride on the fence and contact the object to move the object through the cutting zone. The support unit includes an ergonomically shaped hand pad, wherein the support unit is removably attached to the fence and movable along the length thereof. A movable arm is attached to the hand pad and is configured to extend downwardly to an elevation closely adjacent to the top surface.

    • An elongate object cutting apparatus which can cut an elongate object finely and at a high speed while production of vibrations or noises is reduced is disclosed. The elongate object cutting apparatus is suitably used to cut a flexible elongate object such as a terminal carrier having a plurality of terminals connected in the form of a chain in a process of manufacturing a wire harness or a wire or an electric wire for use with a wire electrode electric discharge machine, into small pieces. The elongate object cutting apparatus comprises a fixed blade secured to a frame, a rotary blade having a plurality of knife edges on an outer periphery thereof and mounted for rotation on the frame such that the knife edges thereof successively contact with the fixed blade during rotation thereof. While the rotary blade is rotated, an elongate object is supplied between and cut by cooperation of the fixed blade and the rotary blade.

    • Apparatus for severing the running web of tipping paper in a filter tipping machine has a rotary anvil whose cylindrical peripheral surface is contacted by the running web, a rotary carrier which is adjacent to and defines with the anvil a nip for the running web, a knife which is movably mounted in the carrier and has an elongated cutting edge which cooperates with the web-contacting portion of the peripheral surface of the anvil to sever the web once during each revolution of the carrier, and a system of springs which bias the knife axially of the carrier so as to prevent movements of the knife under the action of centrifugal force and/or gravity but to allow the knife to move its cutting edge into a position in which the entire cutting edge contacts the peripheral surface of the anvil upon completion of the first cut. This reduces noise which is generated when the apparatus is in use. The springs can bear directly against the knife and/or carrier, or they may stress suitable slide blocks which frictionally engage the end portions of the knife or the adjacent sections of the carrier. Noise can be reduced still further by the provision of resilient elements and bearings which prevent radial and/or axial wobbling of the shafts for the anvil and knife carrier with respect to the housing of the tipping machine.
