    • A wire electric discharge machine includes a wire electrode fed downward to a workpiece to perform electric discharge machining, a direction changing unit that changes a traveling direction of the wire electrode below the workpiece, a collection roller that collects the wire electrode, the traveling direction of which is changed, an extendable conveying pipe provided between the direction changing unit and the collection roller, the wire electrode being inserted through the inside of the conveying pipe, a supply unit that supplies the machining fluid into the conveying pipe, a supply-amount-information detecting unit that detects information concerning a supply amount of the machining fluid supplied to the conveying pipe, and a control unit that controls supply capacity for feeding the machining fluid to the conveying pipe from the supply unit on the basis of the information from the supply-amount-information detecting unit.

    • Provided is a wire electric discharge machining device and method capable of reliably terminating a short circuit between a wire electrode and a workpiece. The invention relates to a wire electric discharge machining device that starts machining of a workpiece (3) by generating an electric discharge in a machining gap formed between the workpiece and a wire electrode (2) threaded through a start hole (4) in the workpiece. The wire electric discharge machining device includes: a tension control device (56) that controls tension of the wire electrode so as to maintain the tension at a set value; a short circuit detector (57) that detects a short circuit between the wire electrode and the workpiece; and a short circuit termination system that reduces the tension of the wire electrode and vibrates the wire electrode in order to terminate a short circuit when the short circuit detector has detected the short circuit.

    • A wire electric discharge machining apparatus according to embodiments includes a wire electrode, a wire supplying unit that supplies the wire electrode, a collecting motor that collects the wire electrode at a predetermined speed, a tension motor that controls a tension of the wire electrode between the wire supplying unit and the collecting motor, a speed calculating unit that calculates a traveling speed of the wire electrode at a predetermined time interval, a speed storing unit that stores the traveling speed calculated by the speed calculating unit, a differential speed calculating unit that calculates a differential speed between a current traveling speed output from the speed calculating unit and a past traveling speed stored in the speed storing unit, and a breakage detecting unit that detects breakage of the wire electrode by comparing the differential speed with a predetermined threshold.
