    • An unloading device for removing a workpiece from a lathe having a spindle for holding the workpiece includes an unloading apparatus for receiving the workpiece configured to couple to the spindle. A pneumatic system is coupled to the unloading apparatus whereby air flow acts on the workpiece and causes the workpiece to exit the spindle and travel to the unloading apparatus. The unloading apparatus extends into a machining chamber of the lathe to couple to the spindle. A downstream end of the unloading apparatus is configured to create a venturi effect. A workpiece receiving tray is located downstream of the unloading apparatus. After exiting the unloading apparatus the workpiece is directed against a damper. A safety door is located between the unloading apparatus and the damper. The unloading device has a footprint of a limited dimension permitting use of the unloading device with a chip conveyor.

    • A loading device for sequential loading of bars in machine tools comprises chutes (16) for arrival of a bar against stops (17) for stopping in a withdrawal position. Beyond the stops (17) there is a guide (20,20') for axial sliding of a bar in a direction aligned with the inlet of a machine tool (14). Raising elements (22) have their upper surface (23) inclined and terminating with a stop part (24) arranged substantially vertically to the guide (20,20'). Said raising elements (22) are mobile between a first position below the chutes (16) and the guides (20,20') and a second position above the stops (17) and the guides (20,20') in which they raise the bar placed in the withdrawal position to cause sliding onto the upper inclined surface (23) toward the guide ( 20,20') to a stop position (26). Upon return of the raising elements to the first position the bar in the stop position (26) is placed on the underlying guides (20,20') to be pushed by (pushers) (37,38) into the machine tool.

    • A raw material feeder for automatically feeding flexible stock, such, for example, as tubes or small-diameter rods of metal, plastic, or fiber into an automatically-controlled machine tool such, for example, as an automatic lathe. The feeder consists of an indexing drum having a plurality of peripherally-disposed, hollow tubes, each for housing one piece of the raw stock. By means of pneumatic pressure, each unit of stock is periodically advanced into the automatic lathe for performing drilling, milling, grinding, and the like operations. When the work piece is finished, another portion of the stock is automatically advanced into the lathe. Indexing is effected also by penumatic pressure. The drum of the feeder additionally serves as an air container serving as a moisture trap. The capacity of the feeder may be as large as 2,000 feet of quarter-inch stock while having a length of 12 feet. Another embodiment of the feeder has means for rotating a special hollow feeder tube containing a piece of raw stock to be machined and disposed adjacent the lathe. This will speed up the operation of the lathe. An air sensor mechanism is also provided which makes it possible to sense when the last portion of the raw stock has been used up adjacent the machine tool''s collet. Alternatively, each of the hollow tubes of the indexing drum may be rotated by a suitable mechanism to reduce the space required for the feeder system.
