    • A casting apparatus for vehicle wheels includes a bottom core or face core mold segment affixed to a stationary bed and a top core mold segment affixed to a vertically movable head; a pivotally mounted side mold positioning arrangement of minimal bulk and mass is provided for each of the four, or greater number of side molds. Side mold segments are each connected by a linkage to the movable head to move vertically upwardly and downwardly while permitting independent lateral, typically arcuate, movement. Actuators in the form of hydraulic, pneumatic, or other linear actuators for each of the side mold segments are controlled to move each segment inwardly or outwardly; electro-mechanical or pneumatic actuators could alternatively be employed. A locator ring latching mechanism is provided for retaining the side cores in closed position which engages tabs on the bottom of the side cores to seat on and seal with the bottom core.

    • An apparatus for casting molded parts includes a casting mold having a lower core, an upper core and pushing elements, which, in a first end position, are in contact so as to form a hollow space into which a liquid casting mass can be introduced during a casting process. The upper core, which rests against the inside of the molded part is displaceable in an insertion direction in order to remove the molded part comprising a hardened casting mass. The upper core has a jacket surface and a bore that extends at a predetermined angle with respect to the insertion direction. An actuating element is displaceable in the insertion direction. An undercut pushing element is coupled to the actuating element via a crossbeam and has a front end that is movable between first and second end positions. Due to a displacement of the actuating element, the undercut pushing element travels in the bore of the upper core part with the front end of the undercut pushing element protruding laterally beyond the jacket surface of the upper core in the first end position during the casting process. The front end of the undercut pushing element assumes the second end position which either flush with the jacket surface of the upper core or disposed behind the jacket surface, when the upper core is removed from the casting mold.

    • A casting machine is disclosed having a quick-change tie bar mechanism. This mechanism includes an actuator having a rod coupled to a first bearing member and a body coupled to a second bearing member. The first and second bearing members are configured to reciprocally move in opposite directions in response to extension and retraction of the rod relative to the body. The bearing members have a first configuration for engaging a nut threaded on a tie bar to fix the tie bar in relation to a platen through which the tie bar extends. The first and second bearing members also have a second configuration for releasing the tie bar to permit removal through the platen so that a part may be accessed for removal and/or replacement. In another embodiment, a number of platens are included as are a number of tie bars configured to guide movement of one of the platens relative to another.

    • A die casting apparatus comprises a pair of mold assemblies which include molding surfaces cooperating to define a first mold cavity therebetween for casting a first portion of a cast object in the first mold cavity. One of the mold assemblies comprises a fixed mold core, and a movable mold core movable with respect to the fixed mold core along a core axis between a closed position and an open position. The mold cores include casting surfaces disposed such that in the closed position the casting surfaces cooperate to define a second mold cavity therebetween extending transversely to the core axis and in communication with the first mold cavity for casting a remaining portion of the object integral with the first portion, while in the released position the object is substantially released from the one mold assembly.

The mold includes first and second halves and two rods passing at different elevations and orthogonally into the mold for providing the two throughbores in the bullet. The length of the bracket is such that upon opening the mold, the pin moves in contact with the mold first half until such time as the bracket contacts the mold second half forcing the pin to leave the mold first half and move towards the mold second half until such time as the bracket contacts the mold first half causing the mold to no longer be able to separate and positioning the pin equidistantly between the mold first and second halves.

    • A metal die device for casting of a simpler device structure by which a cast product having an undercut may directly be produced is disclosed. A casting (cavity) S is provided between a fixed die 21 and a movable die 31 as a movable core 40 having an undercut forming projection 41 is interposed between the fixed and movable dies. A swing member 54, caused to swing by a cylinder 51, is provided overlying the movable die 31. On the swing member 54, there is provided a cylinder 57 for vertically sliding the core 40. In die opening, following casting, the core 40 is vertically slid and subsequently caused to swing towards an upper outer side to release the core 40 from the cast product. Degree of freedom in metal designing is achieved without excess restriction in the shape or position of the undercut.
