    • The invention concerns an engraved surface of a deformation tool which deforms a workpiece with an active medium, wherein the deformation tool has a pressure agent feed for the active medium and an engraved surface according to the desired final contour of the workpiece. Accordingly deformation methods are performed with hydro-deforming as well as of internal high-pressure metal forming of a wall of a workpiece by the engraved surface of the tool by way of the pressure medium. Upon withdrawal of the workpiece the pressure medium can pass to the engraved surface of the tool, during the deformation of the following workpiece no contact between the engraved surface and the workpiece wall occurs due to the pressure agent adhering to the engraved surface, whereby undesired deformations occur on the workpiece. Accordingly to overcome this problem microstructures are provided on the engraved surface, wherein the microstructures are suitable to receive the active medium adhering to in the wall of the workpiece and the engraved surface. Undesired deformations of the workpiece are thereby avoided. Furthermore the engravings can serve as a depot for lubricant and thus to minimize friction.

    • An inflatable device for simply and efficiently repairing a dent, crease, or other surface irregularity in a component of a vehicle, or, alternatively, for simply and efficiently supporting, raising or moving an object to a desired position. The device includes an accordion-like, inflatable air vessel and an air hose assembly that is adapted for attaching to the vessel for introducing air under pressure into the vessel for expanding the vessel. The device can be manufactured in a variety of shapes and sizes for different specific uses. Additionally, a separate top, which can also be manufactured in a variety of shapes and sizes, may be applied over a part of the vessel for different specific uses. The device, in its deflated or flattened position, is placed beneath or beside the vehicular component to be repaired. The device is then inflated to force the dent, crease or other surface irregularity outwardly back toward its original contour. Alternatively, the device, in its deflated or flattened position, is placed beneath or beside the object to be supported, raised or moved. The device is then inflated, thereby supporting, raising or moving the object to a desired position.

    • A collapsible driveshaft and method of making the same. The collapsible driveshaft includes a tubular member having first and second portions that are integrally formed as a one-piece member. The first portion has splines formed on an exterior surface thereof. The second, opposite portion has both outer and inner diameters that are greater than the outer diameter of the first portion. The method includes placing a tubular metal blank into a hydroforming die having a die cavity and expanding the blank by pressurizing the interior of the blank with hydroforming fluid. During the hydroforming process, the first portion of the blank is expanded to form splines while the second portion is expanded to form inner and outer diameters that are greater than the outer diameter of the first portion.
