    • An air purifier (10) is provided having a housing (11) having a grilled air inlet (12), a grilled air outlet (13), and a control panel (14). The air purifier (10) also includes a pre-filter (16), a main filter (17), a blower (18) and a controller (19), all mounted within the housing (11). The controller (19) has a central processing unit having a permanent memory for storing the program instructions for operation and control of the air purifier, a working memory, and a non-volatile memory for the permanent storage of programs and counters. The controller is programmable so as to control the operation of the blower according to time and speed parameters entered into memory.

    • An electrostatic air cleaner for installation in an air-circulating system, including a flow sensor for sensing the flow of air across the electrostatic air cleaner, and a switch, responsive to the flow sensor, for operating the electrostatic air cleaner only when the flow of air exceeds a predetermined threshold. More particularly, the electrostatic air cleaner includes an electrostatic air cleaner cover unit adapted to be secured over the opening in a frame in the air circulating system which frame contains at least one removable electrostatic air cleaning cell. The cover unit has a baffle for substantially blocking the air flow between the electrostatic air cleaning cell and the cover unit. The baffle has an opening therein, and a bypass tube is aligned with the opening in the baffle. An air flow sensor is disposed in the tube for sensing the air flow through the tube. The air flow sensor preferably includes a self-heating thermistor for sensing the flow in the bypass tube. A second thermistor can be provided to sense the ambient temperature, for calibrating the flow sensing and providing high temperature and low temperature cut-offs.

    • An electrical type grid electrostatic collector/separator removes particles from an air stream. The apparatus includes multiple parallel grids that act as the porous material, enclosed in a sealed compartment so that the entrained air flows parallel and between one or more centrally located grids. A direct current high voltage field is established between the grids with the polarities alternating between facing grids. The system is preferably used for conductive and semi-conductive materials because of the ease at which the particles can receive an induced charge. The charged particles are separated and collected when they are attracted toward the relatively open wire or woven grids and pass laterally through and onto the next attracting grid until they are out of the air stream and generally fall by gravity to the collection vessel. When non-conductive particles are present, external methods of pre-charging by corona discharge are preferably used. When non-conductive particles are present, both internal and external methods of pre-charging by corona discharge are used with the external method being preferred.

    • This invention relates to an apparatus and method to electrostatically charge or neutralize particles conveyed in a pneumatic stream. More particularly the invention is drawn to an apparatus that has at least two longitudinal chambers separated from each other with a plate electrode. Within each chamber is at least one corona charging electrode with multiple discharge points and at least one power level zone. The apparatus divides a single gas stream into a multiple streams where corona discharge polarizes or neutralizes particles with a similar or dissimilar polarity causing coalescing or separation of the particles as they exit the charging chambers.
