摘要： Composite cordierite honeycomb structures especially suitable for diesel exhaust filtration applications comprise a non-oxide polycrystalline phase constituting 10-70% by weight, with the remainder of the ceramic material constituting a cordierite phase, the non-oxide polycrystalline phase being selected from the group consisting of carbides, nitrides, and borides. Preferably the non-oxide phase is either polycrystalline silicon carbide or polycrystalline silicon nitride and has a particle aspect ratio of less than 3. Inventive ceramic bodies are porous with an open porosity of at least 30%, preferably between 40% and 60%, and a median pore size of at least 5 micrometers, more preferably greater than 8 micrometers and less than 12 micrometers.

摘要： An exhaust aftertreatment filter and method is provided for filtering engine exhaust. Varying cell size is provided to spread trapped contaminant particulate along a distribution pattern reducing heat concentration and the risk of melting during regeneration, to minimize hot-spot meltdown otherwise caused by high density concentration of trapped particulate during regeneration. Cell size is varied by varying volume and/or height and/or width and/or length. Tapering of cells is also provided to change the cross-sectional area from the upstream to the downstream end.

摘要： Filter has a filter main body, a container, a first counter room, and a second counter room. A counter air is introduced into the first counter room through the counter air discharge valve, and fine particles trapped in the filter main body are removed and transported to the second counter room. Then, the removed fine particles are further transported to a process portion isolated from an exhaust gas passage, and the fine particles are fired in the process portion. Since the process portion is isolated from the exhaust gas passage, the fine particles in the process portion are not returned to the filter main body. Moreover, since the fine particles are transported by the counter air only to the second counter room, it is possible to reduce an amount of the counter air.

摘要： A porous honeycomb filter made from a material containing cordierite, of which pore distribution is controlled, as the primary crystalline phase. The pore distribution is such that the volume of a pore with a diameter of below 10 &mgr;m is 15% or less of the total pore volume, the volume of a pore with a diameter of 10 to 50 &mgr;m is 75% or more of the total pore volume, and the volume of a pore with a diameter of above 50 &mgr;m is 10% or less of the total pore volume. This porous honeycomb filter has a high collection efficiency for fine particles (particulates), or the like, and can prevent increase in pressure loss due to the plugging of pores, and particularly can exploit the characteristics thereof for diesel engines that use recent high-pressure fuel injection, common rails, etc.
