The device includes a sheath of flexible and severable material configured to receive the body tissue to be resectioned as it is drawn therein. Thereafter, the sheath is permitted to collapse about the body tissue to contain and constrict the body tissue. Once the body tissue to be resectioned is disposed in the sheath, the sheath is severed to resection the body tissue.

摘要： The invention provides a sling prosthesis (10) for urinary incontinence and also a method of treating urinary incontinence. The sling (10) has a flexible elongate member (12) and a distensible portion (14) and is configured to be inserted dorsally between the urethra and pelvic bone, with ends of the elongate member attachable to retropubic or ischial structures. A valve (18) which is subcutaneously implantable in a labial or scrotal region may be connected via a conduit (16) to the dispensible portion. Fluid is injected via the valve into the distensible portion (14) to that the distensible portion (14) sufficiently constricts the urethra to inhibit undesirable leakage of urine. Fluid can then either be injected into or extracted from the distensible portion in order to alter distension thereof.

摘要： Methods, devices, and systems for treating the support structures of the body, particularly for incontinence, take advantage of two mechanisms to enhance the support provided by the fascia, ligaments and tendons: first, the invention increases a modulus of elasticity of these tissues, and particularly of the fascial tissues. The increase in modulus can be effected by directing sufficient energy to the fascial tissue so as to promote the formation of scar tissue. The second mechanism attaches tissue planes together, often by directing energy to an interface between adjacent fascial tissues.

摘要： A biodegradable, biocompatible porous matrix as a scaffold for tissue engineering cartilage is formed of a copolymer of a polyalkylene glycol and an aromatic polyester such as a polyethylene glycol/polybutylene terephtalate copolymer. A ceramic coating such as a calcium phosphate coating may be provided on the scaffold by soaking the scaffold in a solution containing calcium and phosphate ions. A composite scaffold which may be used as an implant is preferably a two-layer system may be formed having an outer surface of a layer of the porous matrix formed of the copolymer, and an outer surface of a layer of a ceramic material. The composite scaffold may be prepared by casting the copolymer on top of the ceramic material in a mould. Cells are preferably seeded on the scaffold prior to implanting, and the scaffold may contain bioactive agents that are released on degradation of the scaffold in vivo.

摘要： A device for treating cardiac disease of a heart having an upper portion and a lower portion divided by an A-V groove, the device including a jacket adapted to be secured to the heart, and a non-adherent material in association with the jacket. The jacket is fabricated from a flexible material defining a volume between an upper and a lower end, the jacket being adapted to be adjusted on the heart to snugly conform to an external geometry of the heart and assume a maximum adjusted volume for the jacket to constrain expansion of the heart beyond the maximum adjusted volume during diastole and permit substantially unimpeded contraction of the heart during systole. As a result of the flexible material, the jacket allows unimpeded diastolic filling of the heart. Also described is a method for treating cardiac disease including surgically accessing the heart, applying the treatment device of the invention, securing the treatment device to the heart, and surgically closing access to the heart while leaving the treatment device on the heart.
