    • A denture-securing device is provided that is usable to substantially secure a denture within a mouth. The denture-securing device includes at least one absorbent and flexible pad installable on a first side and an opposite second side of a denture that is affixable to a human gum. The at least one pad comprises an embossed outer side configured to face a human gum when the pad is installed on the denture. The denture-securing device may be used with top dentures, bottom dentures, or other configurations of dentures. The denture-securing device may advantageously secure dentures without requiring use of adhesives. The denture-securing device may also reduce the likelihood of food getting under dentures, provide a firm yet soft and comfortable fit, and minimize rocking of lower dentures. The denture-securing device may advantageously be secured to gums using a suction fit through saliva or other sources of moisture.

    • A dental prosthesis of the type secured to the alveolar ridge within the mouth of the user through the application of a partial vacuum which serves to stabilize and maintain a dental plate in secure operative position. A full or partial dental plate incorporates false teeth at least some of which have a hollow interior portion in which valve means are mounted in fluid communication with a pressure differential channel itself extending along and being disposed in fluid communication with exposed surface portions of the alveolar ridge. Application of negative pressure to the interior of the mouth serves to direct fluid flow from the differential pressure channel through the valving structure within the hollow interior portion wherein such valving structure prohibits reverse flow therethrough. A partial vacuum is thereby created and maintained between the undersurface of the dental plate, in the area of the differential pressure channel, and the exposed surface of the alveolar ridge.

    • It has been found that the upper and lower dentures of false teeth tend to remain more securely in place if the marginal edges of the outer flange, in the case of the upper denture, and the inner flange, in the case of the lower denture, are thickened in the posterior areas of the respective plate. In the case of the upper denture, the marginal edge of the upper flange is curved sharply outwardly so as to engage the cheek of the wearer, during use, in the vicinity of the junction of the cheek with upper gum. This thickened marginal portion of the flange is greater in the posterior areas than in the anterior area of the plate. In the case of the lower plate, the posterior ends of the inner flange rearwardly from the second molars, are provided with inwardly and downwardly extending projections which, during use, extend beneath opposite sides of a person's tongue adjacent the rear thereof, and into engagement with the floor of the person's mouth.

    • A unit molded into the denture which includes a casing forming a pumping chamber in the denture and being open toward the exposed side of the denture with conduits connecting two receptacles in a suction chamber or chambers which latter are open toward the gum side of the denture; a resilient pumping element in the pumping chamber is adapted to produce a suction in each receptacle; at each receptacle is an enlarged suction cavity and a suction head secured in the receptacle projects into the suction cavity and has holes in its sides communicating through the receptacle with the conduits, whereby when by suction the system is filled with a fluid, and then placed over the gum, some of the moisture is expelled by the pumping means which when released produces a predetermined suction to suck the gum into the cavity and around the suction head; The suction head is replaceable by a cavity forming element which has a suitable wire adapted to be extended through the form of the gum on which the denture is molded, thereby to assist in holding the unit in position during the molding, and also in forming the said cavity.

    • The basic plate portion proper of a full-mouth denture is molded in the usual manner for mating engagement over buccal, lingual and corresponding frontal gum surfaces of the patient''s jaw; and around the arch of said plate portion it is specially molded on its mating interior. In this respect said interior will in all cases afford one or more partial depth depressions which mate precisely with the remaining stub of a partially worn or otherwise physically damaged natural tooth or teeth. Optionally, the molding of the plate portion may be such as to fit nicely with a surface of the gum at which there may have been a tooth extraction at one or more locations, as well as to afford an appropriate opening or openings to matingly receive one or more sound and undamaged full-height or permanently capped teeth, so that the basic plate portion is fully mated to the jaw about the entire dental arch. At spaces corresponding to the locations of the worn tooth stubs, tooth members simulating in appearance that of the originals of the stubs are molded to the exterior of the basic denture plate portion; being backed by solid grinder formations which are also rigidly bonded to correspondingly shaped surfaces of said basic portion. These formations lie in direct vertical register with tooth stubs, so that masticating force is transmitted therethrough directly from the jaw. The replacement tooth shell components are thus located a trifle laterally outwardly of the grinder portions or formations, hence of the existing tooth stubs for which they substitute; and the arrangement of such shells in relation to other tooth parts of the denture and/or undamaged teeth in the mouth is such as to afford a natural-appearing tooth array all around the dental arch. In instances in which there has been an extraction and no tooth stub is present, the denture mates fully about the gum alone, and in this zone a fully sized and shaped replacement tooth portion is bonded to the plate portion. Otherwise, the stub-engaging portions of the plate anchor the latter to the jaw, the plate similarly anchors to existing undamaged teeth, and migration of any such tooth, damaged or not, is prevented.
